About the location
Monterosso is the biggest of the five Cinque Terre villages. It’s split into two halves – the west side is more modern, while the eastern end has a traditional feel, with narrow lanes and candy-coloured houses. There’s a handful of interesting ancient watchtowers to look out for, plus a beautiful church with a striped marble façade.
Monterosso has a couple of coarse-sand beaches, the biggest of which is in the new part of town. They’re the only ‘proper’ beaches in the Cinque Terre, so they’re well set up with loungers and parasols. Away from the beach, you’ve got the remaining four villages (Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore) to explore. You can get the train or boat between them, but for spectacular scenery, there’s nothing better than taking to the hills and hiking your way along the coast.

We managed to get away for a week at this great hotel just after lockdown and before Italy went into the red zone. It was a great time to visit as the Cinque Terre villages and hiking trails were nowhere near as busy as they would normally be. Most places were covid aware, especially the hotel, masks had to be worn everwhere and we felt quite safe.
The hotel is superb, staff were all very friendly and efficient, the pool and bar and pizzas were great, fantastic balcony sea views, we were half board and the restaurant did not disappoint, fabulous food and wines to match, service was excellent, would thoroughly recommend this above going down into town to dine.
Rooms a little on the small size but acceptable in this homely 42 room hotel.
Breakfast was a bit busy with queues so we avoided it as we wanted to get out early onto the hiking trails.
All in all a great trip and I would highly recommend this superb hotel.

The staff are friendly and polite. Rooms are clean and have great facilities and amenities.
One minor nuisance was our room was near the restaurant/breakfast area. It was a little noisy at night, but nothing outrageous.
Would thoroughly recommend.

There is no better time to visit the Cinque Terre and there is no better place to stay than the Porto Roca. The five World Heritage Site villages that are usually rammed with tourists from the US and Asia are strangely quiet, making it a perfect time to explore the region. Monterosso has the best beaches of the 5 and the hotel has its own socially distanced umbrellas. The Porto Roca is situated to the south of the old town and has exceptional views over the Bay and the coastline. It is immaculately clean. The service is excellent. We stayed for a week, which was enough time to balance village visits with chilling on the beach. The Pozzo restaurant makes excellent pizza and the Torre Aurora was the best for haute cuisine. On the downside, the wifi wasn't always great and there wasn't enough fruit for breakfast, but these minor complaints aren't enough to take a star from the 5-star holiday we had.

We had a wonderful stay at Porto Roca! You cannot beat the infinity pool above the Mediterranean. The hotel was not very busy with people and it felt like we had the pool to ourselves! The rooms could use a little updating but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Easy to walk into the town and eat at fabulous restaurants and we had access to chairs on the beach through the hotel! Wish we stayed a few extra days! I wouldn???t stay anywhere else in Monterosso!

The Porto Roca with it???s hillside location provided constantly breath taking views from the rooms, the restaurant and the pool. The staff was always friendly and keen to help plan a day of hiking, exploring the near by towns or just pool or beach lounge time. My only regret was not having more time at this fabulous hotel and incredible collection of towns. One of the highlights of Italy.
