Q & A

1. What was your most memorable holiday meal?

Lovely little family restaurant in Malcesine, Lake Garda.  Prawn tagliatelle washed down with their homemade limoncello!

2. What is the best thing about being in Italy?

You can’t go wrong with the food, everything they do is to the highest standard. You can go to the littlest cafe and get such top-quality food. The people are wonderful, everything is so relaxed and welcoming. The cities are also so pretty, Italy is really just a fantastic place.

3. Where would you love to go next, and why?

Calabria, it’s another one that I’ve been to with work that I would just love to see in my own time. Overall, Calabria has a very rustic feel and there are some places that haven’t quite caught up with the touristy feel, so you get a true taste of the real Italy. I can remember walking through the main piazza and thinking how tranquil it was. The beaches also have a Caribbean style, with secluded white sand bays, really some of the best beaches in Italy.

4. Do you prefer visiting cities, coast or countryside, and why?

Countryside, Tuscany is absolutely breathtaking. I’ve driven there quite a few times, and I just can’t drive properly because everything is so beautiful that I have to keep stopping. So, I have to be the passenger now, because it’s really just that incredible.

My favourites

Bridge Rialto on Grand canal famous landmark panoramic view Venice Italy with blue sky white cloud and gondola boat water.
Venice Holidays
Venice is my favourite city in the world. I even splurged a little on one of my big birthdays and flew in for lunch. I went to my special place in the city, it’s a little bar that doesn’t even have a name right next to the Rialto Bridge. It’s just so beautiful, every time I go there it takes my breath away. I sometimes feel like I should have been born in Venice, it’s truly a magical city.
Borgobianco Resort and Spa, Puglia
Borgobianco Resort and Spa in Puglia. Like most places in Puglia, it has quite a rustic feel. Most of the places are old farm houses turned into hotels, so you’re not going there for the fancy experience, it’s all about the feel of the place and the views. The resort is set right in the centre of all these watermelon farms with the sea in the distance, it’s quite dreamlike. The food is sensational and the people are wonderful. I loved sitting by the pool amongst all the olive trees, it was so laid back and beautiful.
