The Acquario di Genova is one of Europe's largest aquariums, spread over 27,000sm and housing over 15,000 marine animals. Situated on the old harbour of Genova, the aquarium gives off the impression that you are stepping aboard a ship, which many people believe the structure resembles. With over 60 tanks containing everything from Bottlenose Dolphins to Gentoo Penguins, the aquarium is teeming with life and filled with excitement thus making the perfect family day out. If you have a hankering to learn more from your experience then there's an option to meet a marine biologist, (paid locally) who will be on hand to guide you around, providing you with a more unique and personal service and opening up the opportunity to get up close to some of your favourite animals.
Similar to that of the Eden Project in the south west of England, the Acquario di Genova has developed the 'Biosphere', a man-made ecosystem designed to replicate a real life tropical environment. Admire the different species of fauna and flora as well as banana trees, coffee and cinnamon plants and of course an array of tropical birds, all found within this temperature controlled glass dome.
