- Centrally overlooking the Grand Canal
- Enchanting views of Venice and the waterfront from the restaurant's terrace
Dating back to 1475 and originally a home belonging to the family of Doge Andrea Gritti, this iconic hotel occupies an enviable corner of Venice overlooking the Grand Canal. After undergoing an extensive renovation, the painstakingly restored hotel is opening its doors to guests once again. Behind the façade’s Venetian Gothic windows are gorgeous public rooms adorned with antique furnishings, marble floors, precious paintings and elegant damasks. The Gritti Palace’s guest rooms are Venetian in style, embracing local stucco and Murano designs that reflect the bygone era of the Baroque and Rococo.
Fine culinary delights are available in the hotel's Restaurant Club del Doge, set amongst marble columns and beneath wooden beams. During the summer, the restaurant opens out onto a waterfront terrace with enchanting views of Venice. The legendary The Gritti Palace has played host to some of Venice’s most illustrious visitors throughout the years, from Ernest Hemingway to international Royalty.

Having visited The Gritti Palace many times now, every visit has been perfect and I always look forward to returning time and time again.
The building itself being a Venetian Gothic palazzo on Canal Grande with spectacular views of the Salute and the Canal couldn't be better.
The décor of the public spaces and rooms are historical in feel and luxury surrounds you. The Bathrooms are some of the finest I've ever encountered in a hotel and are clad in beautiful marble of varying colours.
The bar, whether sat inside or on the terrace taking in the views is truly one of the world's greatest pastimes.
The restaurant serves fantastic Venetian cuisine, has an exceptional wine list and the dining room itself is just as beautiful as the rest of the hotel.
The service and the concierge are truly world class as expected.
You must visit The Gritti Palace at least once in your lifetime, even if it is just for a drink or some food, it really is that great and is certainly one of the world's finest hotels.

Cocktails are not special although the decor is as pretty as it ever was.
There is a feeling of cost saving. Even their hot chocolate was this and lukewarm where it used to be thick, and creamy and piping hot.
Pity.

We have been fortunate to have visited Venice nearly a dozen times in the last 35 years with our last 6 stays in this hotel. The location is one of the best next to the Grand Canal and opposite the church Santa Maria de Salute, (which is beautiful at night when lit) yet only a few minutes walk to St Mark's Square and the rest of the city. It is also very peaceful as not on a main thoroughfare, but has a Gondola and a traghetto (public gondola type boat for crossing the canal) next to it. The hotel is very luxurious in a typical "old" Italian style , staff are very friendly and helpful . Due to Covid the restaurant/bar menu are very restricted at this time only.
