Set in the countryside close to Perugia, Canalicchio is a small but perfectly formed hamlet, dominated by the Relais il Canalicchio hotel. This beautiful little cluster of historic buildings is a hand-picked slice of what makes Umbria great. Set beneath rustic brick towers and proud townhouses, the village streets zigzag through the centre, encompassing a 10th-century castle and a medieval church. There are also some rather more modern additions, including a spa and an authentic Italian restaurant.
The land surrounding Canalicchio is truly typical of Umbria, made up of gently rolling hills draped with orchards and vineyards. Nearby you’ll find numerous picturesque hill towns, including Bettona – a medieval walled town with Etruscan roots. Of course, the area’s biggest attraction is the breathtaking hilltop town of Perugia. Umbria’s capital city is known for its vibrant student population, historic architecture and wealth of restaurants.
