About the location
Holidays to Assisi show visitors the true
Italian countryside in all its glory. The town sits in the region of
Umbria, just east of Perugia and lies nestled in the foothills of Mount Subasio. Assisi is known as the birthplace of St. Francis and has been attracting pilgrims since the 13th Century.
The most famous site in Assisi is of course the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi, which is dedicated to the saint. There is also the 12th Century Rocca Maggiore Fortress and a huge medieval complex, all of which gave the town its UNESCO World Heritage status. The town is dotted with beautiful churches, small narrow lanes and charming piazzas, where you can sit and people watch from the quaint cafés. By day Assisi filled with day trippers from nearby Perugia, but by nightfall, you’ll have the town all to yourself and can enjoy milling with the locals in the soft evening light.

Beautiful spot with great view over plains of Umbria. View of olive trees in garden from room above restaurant. Beautiful common room with strong wifi. Fabulous dinner of 4 courses on Sat night for ???20 each. On Sun night a light cold delicious dinner was served. Good bfast of cereal, fruit, joghurt cake , salami & cheese. Room was large & v comfortable but water eis take a ling time to hewt up in shower. Beautiful gardens and magnificent pool area. It is below Assisi so a taxi up the hill is advised.. its an easy walk down. 25 min walj to the train station. Very friendly staff. I would definitely recommend a stat here esp in nights when the lovely dinner is served.

I'm just completing a week's stay at 3 esse country house, location is stunning, well maintained gardens and lovely pool, views across open land and mountain range in distance, rooms very comfy with A/C, breakfast is basic but very nice, lunch menu also well priced with good selection. Serves fantastic food Friday & Sat evenings only, but the lunchtime menus is available on other evenings. It's a 15 minute walk to St. Francis Basilica but strenuous due to incline of road so if infirm not suitable. We have walked many times and hotel will arrange a taxi to where ever you want to go.

My wife and I attended a wedding in Villamena outside Assisi. We decided to make a holiday of it so we stayed six nights in this hotel (Rating 2*). Rooms very clean, double bed consisted of two single beds pushed together, (I???ve seen this many times on the Continent). We had WiFi and tv (Italian channels). The shower is hand held with no curtain, so be prepared. We ended up taking baths for the week. Breakfast was poor. Bread, cakes, croissants, cereal, coffee machine, plums, salami, cheese. No variety for the full week and no toaster which I consider a necessity. There is a lovely menu serving dinners and light snacks, which we availed of a few times. I must say though, the staff were very nice and helpful. They made us feel very welcome.
I???ve got to mention the price of taxis in Assisi in general. From the hotel to the wedding venue (8-9 km ) cost ???70 return.
Not the fault of the hotel. It???s just the way things are. Eg. If you wanted to taxi from train to this hotel...???30, minimum fare ???20. Total extortion. Couldn???t get over it. The tourist office said taxis are private. They have no say in the matter. So stick to buses. Except....no bus to Tre Esse. Therefore a taxi is necessary.
It was the only off putting thing about Assisi.
Could I suggest the hotel provide a kettle in the rooms to make tea or coffee in the evenings.

We returned to this small Country House ???hotel??? because we wanted to spend more time in the Umbria region, and we wanted to keep the price down. We had a great stay three years ago. The hotel is inexpensive and located about a 15-20 minute walk up an incline from the gates of the central city, or a 3 minute drive (there is parking inside). The hotel grounds are natural and beautiful. The rooms seem all a bit different-they are bare bones minimal but functional and far better than most hotels we have visited in Italy in this price range. The AC worked great and the internet worked great in the common area and hit our room as well. Breakfast is included. They have a dinner available a few nights a week and it was very nice- lots of food and very reasonably priced. The kids loved the pool. We found this to be a very comfortable hotel.
