Touch down in Naples, the gateway to the Neapolitan Riviera, and check in to your hotel. Don’t waste a minute before tasting your first slice of Neapolitan pizza – since you’re in its place of origin, we recommend a simple margherita.
Start early to make the most of your first full day in Naples, and wander the beautiful piazzas, cobbled streets and grand palazzos of the historic centre. Culture enthusiasts will love visiting the famous San Carlo Opera House and Archaeological Museum; while you’re in the area, why not book a half-day tour of Pompeii? For lunch, opt for pizza marinara (a Naples speciality with tomato sauce and garlic), or try some of the city’s fresh seafood with a local wine – Fiani di Avellino is a popular white.
Today, you’ll transfer to the beautiful town of Amalfi. You can hire a car or we can arrange a driver for you. Once you arrive in Amalfi, take a stroll down to the pretty waterfront, home to a bustling harbour, beach and a clutch of seafood restaurants – perfect for a relaxed dinner and evening passeggiata.
Amalfi is a lovely town to explore on foot. It’s well worth climbing the 62 steps from the expansive Piazza Duomo up to the cathedral, the symbol of Amalfi dating back to the 12th century. Walk back down to the piazza and stop for espresso at a pavement café.
Spend an afternoon or two soaking up the Neapolitan sunshine on Amalfi’s beach, hop along the coast to the famous Maiori Beach to sunbathe on the golden sands, or catch a boat to the famously photogenic Positano. Regular buses and ferries make travelling along the Amalfi Coast easy; if you’ve hired a car, it’s even easier to explore the scenic coastal towns.
Check out of your hotel and say ciao to Amalfi before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
