About the location
Holidays in Taormina marry history and culture to form an unforgettable experience in
Italy. It’s perched at the top of Monte Tauro in the foothills of Mount Etna on Sicily’s Eastern coastline, between the cities of Catania and Messina. This ancient town offers visitors a view into the past with a number of elegantly preserved historic treasures, from the grand Greek-Roman Theatre to the equally impressive Palazzo Corvaja, which are just waiting to be discovered.
You don’t have to be a history buff to make the most of everything Taormina has to offer. Alongside the historical sights there are plenty of other attractions to take in. The main street, Corso Umberto, is traffic free and home to an array of shops and restaurants to rival any in the bigger cities.
There are also plenty of seaside activities to dive into thanks to the town’s coastal setting. Adventurous travellers can try watersports like wind surfing and snorkelling, while relaxing scenic boat tours around the gorgeous capes and grottos of the Ionian Sea allow you to explore at your own pace. Alternatively, simply spend long tranquil days on sun soaked shingle beaches.
Transfer time
The hotel is 1 hour from Catania airport. Return private transfers included. To change your transfers or book car hire instead, simply call us once you’ve completed your booking.

I will start with the few things in favor of this hotel.
The first room we were given was small and clearly unrenovated. Upon complaining reception willingly gave as the room next door which was bigger and far better. In a hotel half full at best: why not give us that room in the first place?
The view from our room was fantastic.
The hotel is located only a few minutes walking distance from the town center.
WIFI was fast and stable.
Pool area is nice, also the hotel garden.
Now all the thing that will make us never come back:
Parking is a nightmare as the hotel as only very few parking places along their front entrance. I don??t want to imagine what happens if they are fully booked.
Breakfast is a joke even by Italian standards. Old bread, artificial juice, fried eggs or omeletts to order only for extra money. Right now almost everything must be handed over by staff due to Covid, but strangely enough coffee is served and bread and butter in the open for self service.
The (supposingly) restaurant chief is RUDE!! We asked wether the terrace was open. He opened the door and pointed out "Here, the door is open!". We asked why we could not have breakfast out there with the beautiful view in the sun and got the answer: "It is impossible!" We asked. "Why?" "Because it is impossible!" and the guy left us standing there.
My wife dared to touch a boiled egg with the back of her hand to see if it was warm and got shouted at by the staff woman, the same woman who walkes the restaurant with the mask down her face.
The pool is generally nice but ice cold. We had a toasted sandwich at the pool bar which was expensive and horrible.
As stated above we were not allowed to have breakfast on the restaurant terrace. On our last night there was a large wedding taking place exactly on that terrace right underneath our balcony which lasted until luckily the rain started at 4 am in the morning. No way one could sleep with the balcony door open, the noise could easily be heard even with everything closed.
Needless to add: nobody of the wedding party cared to wear a mask at any time.
Upon checkout we found out that the water bottles in the fridge were 3 Euros each which nobody told us beforehand and which is more than incommon for a hotel in this price range. For fairness: after complaining the water was taken off the bill.

We changed our destination to Sicily and this hotel at the last minute, due to quarantine restrictions with the Algarve. It is a lovely old hotel with fantastic views. A few minutes walk into the old town and shops and restaurants. Lovely Gardens next door, built by the lady that built the hotel and Isle Isabel nature reserve, what a grand place it must have been then!!!! Staff were friendly, breakfast was good, just ask for scrambled eggs or bacon if you want them! The chocolate, lemon and almond cakes were delicious. Coffee was served in a coffee pot with a jug of hot frothy milk, as it should be, not from a machine, a definite plus from us!!!! We ate one evening meal there and it did not dissapoint, it was lovely. It may be a little tired in places, but the unique period furniture and carpets and pictures were a welcome change from the somewhat sterile interiors of the 'chain' hotels, it was an unexpected enjoyable week!!!

We booked this hotel at the last minute 5 days before our flights with very little research beforehand. So glad we picked the Diodoro. Great location 5 mins walk from the historic town full of bars and good restaurants and right next door to botanical gardens. Beautiful interiors, gardens and amazing vista from the deck of a huge swimming pool. The beds were comfortable and we had a beautiful balcony overlooking the sea and fir trees. Great evening meals infact the best meals of the holiday, especially the risottos. Fabulous service from Daniele in the bar and restaurant. The only let down was the breakfast. Too many processed packeted meats and cheeses, they could serve fresh products. Overall would stay again if we visited Taomina, shame about it only being 20% full due to corona virus.

I stayed here for a couple of nights on a recent trip to Taormina. These are strange times for travelling, and so the hotel seems quiet and somewhat devoid of life.
Check-in wasn???t quite that smooth, they had to hold on to my passport for some time and I had to come back to collect it later. Why that is the case, I???m never told. Everywhere else just takes a photocopy or scan of the ID page. Except at check-in, I never ever saw anyone behind the counter at reception whenever I walked passed.
Location wise, I thought the hotel was great. It is very close to the bus station, and next to a nice park. Not right in the middle of the town, but certainly close enough to walk there and back without much difficulties. There are a few good restaurants nearby too.
But really, the only thing you need to know about the hotel is the spectacular views. I paid a little extra for a room with sea views, but if you don???t, then you miss the whole point of staying here. See my pictures below for the views at different times of day.

The hotel is a beautiful building with amazing views over the Bay of Naxos, and a ten minute walk from the centre of Taormina. The swimming pool as amazing views! That said it is a bit neglected. It is looking a bit tired (some would say tatty in places), and that goes for the staff. No real engagement; slightly functionary; certainly not sense of welcome! Worst of all was the food. We only had breakfast, but (particularly given the grand nature of the hotel) it was very disappointing. Stale croissant/rolls; 'tin' fruit, all very basic and uninteresting. This place needs some strong management to revive it to its former glory!
