- 10-Minute walk to Taormina's historic centre and cable car
- All rooms have stunning sea views
Set in the hillside just below Taormina's town centre, the Grand Hotel Miramare looks out over the sea and the lovely bay of Mazzarò Beach.
The hotel is only a ten-minute walk from Taormina's historic town centre and the cable car that runs down to the coast below. Built in 1922, this patrician villa of the Lo Turco family was transformed in 1926 into the lovely hotel that stands there today. Careful restorations have maintained the charm of this former residence whilst integrating the modern comforts of a four star hotel. Bright guest rooms enjoy sea views and the hotel’s dining room faces a large terrace overlooking the Messina Straight.
The swimming pool and tennis court are located at the bottom of hotel's pretty terraced gardens that extend down 187 steps (there's no lift available) and command marvellous views, and guests can also spend their days relaxing here whilst the poolside bar serves light meals and refreshments.
Amidst a verdant park, the Grand Hotel Miramare is only 400 metres away from the centre of Taormina and a short walk from the funicular and the impressive 3rd century BC Greek Theatre, which was later rebuilt by the Romans.
The Grand Hotel Miramare is a favourite hotel of Citalia guests, many of whom return year after year for the great location, hospitality and rooms with stunning sea views.
The hotel has 68 rooms (official rating 4 star). Child prices apply to ages 2-12 years.
Minimum stay 3 nights.

About the location
Holidays in Taormina marry history and culture to form an unforgettable experience in Italy. It’s perched at the top of Monte Tauro in the foothills of Mount Etna on Sicily’s Eastern coastline, between the cities of Catania and Messina. This ancient town offers visitors a view into the past with a number of elegantly preserved historic treasures, from the grand Greek-Roman Theatre to the equally impressive Palazzo Corvaja, which are just waiting to be discovered.
You don’t have to be a history buff to make the most of everything Taormina has to offer. Alongside the historical sights there are plenty of other attractions to take in. The main street, Corso Umberto, is traffic free and home to an array of shops and restaurants to rival any in the bigger cities.
There are also plenty of seaside activities to dive into thanks to the town’s coastal setting. Adventurous travellers can try watersports like wind surfing and snorkelling, while relaxing scenic boat tours around the gorgeous capes and grottos of the Ionian Sea allow you to explore at your own pace. Alternatively, simply spend long tranquil days on sun soaked shingle beaches.

This is a classic old hotel that retains a historic feel. the location is good being only a short walk into the town center
Our room had old furniture but that gave it character. The bathroom could do with an update. A strange selection of bath towels and napkins instead of hand towels.
The air-con although having a very old control system worked well. Breakfast was ok
The view from the balcony was superb.
We stayed the last weekend before they closed for the season and some refurbishment. The pool area was quite nice but the pool was not the cleanest, especially around the water level
The staff were a mix, one very friendly helpful man on reception in the morning followed by a grumpy very unfriendly lady in the evening

A complete disillusion! My wife and I have stayed before with Grand Hotel Miramare (in Liguria) and thought the name was a mark of quality we could trust. The Taormina branch was nowhere near the standard of the Liguria one, not even talking about being a 4 stars hotel (or even a 3 stars)!
We even thought leaving to another hotel after checking-in but with a limited budget, we just couldn't afford it.
The entrance hallway has been recently refurbished and looks very nice, but that stops there. The rooms and the rest of the facility are terribly outdated and worn. The bathroom was smelly and shows the most its age. It would not even be of 3 stars standards.
My wife and I couldn't understand all the positive review, is it related maybe to the season (we went in September)? The hotel was almost empty, understaffed (we couldn't get any drinks at the bar). And the staff itself was far from showing the most welcoming behaviour (though always remaining polite and respectful) we've been accustomed during the rest of our trip.
Unless this hotel transforms itself, avoid at any cost!

My husband and I stayed here during our two week road trip around Italy. This was by far the worst out of all hotels we had stayed in. When you arrive the hallway is very promising having been freshly renovated in a lovely style, but then you go onto the carpeted hallway towards your room only to discover (a clean) but super antique and outdated room. Old furniture, old and hard towels, old buttons old everything! The hotel has so much potential since it's location is excellent but for the price you pay you expect a hotel that is better kept. The massive hotel was virtually empty so very little staff around. When we wanted to get a drink there was nobody to serve us at the bar so we eventually left. The breakfast was ok but the cappuccino was the weakest I have had in Italy and the fresh orange juice seemed like it was watered down to make some more. After having stayed in much nicer, well kept, refreshed hotels the biggest issue I have with the hotel is the pricing. It is wayyyyy overpriced for an outdated hotel with no services. It should have lost the 4 star status!!!. Would never recommend!

This is a wonderful place. The staff, particularly Francesca, were all really helpful. We were upgraded to a room with a balcony and a sea view. The pool is lovely although, as my wife pointed, there are 187 steps to reach it ! The breakfast has a huge choice and the staff are very friendly in there too. The location is superb, a short walk to the cable car and the town centre. All in all, we would definitely stay here again and thoroughly recommend it.
