The journey to Macugnaga takes you on a truly spectacular drive up the Anzasca Valley, plunged between rugged mountains and where the quaint old houses of the Walser people cling to the cliffs. Macugnaga is nestled in the foothills of the Monte Rosa which, at 15,200 feet, is one of the biggest peaks in the Alps. The village itself is a cluster of typical alpine buildings, centering on the pretty flower filled main square with views of the Alps which ever way you turn.
Optional Extra: Take the chance to feel on top of the world with an unforgettable journey in the Belvedere Chairlift up the great Monte Rosa to view the Alps and the glaciers (available from June - September approx. €13, payable locally).
