About the location
At the foot of Mount Carza lies Cannero, thought to be one of the first towns that visitors discovered when arriving at Lake Maggiore from Northern Europe. Cannero has managed to retain much of its historical heritage, with a medieval church and plenty of interesting architecture. The lakeside promenade offers photo-worthy views, and the pretty townhouses and cafes create a quaint scene which, when viewed from out on the lake, is stunning.
The views are equally impressive from the well-maintained network of paths on the hillside behind the town, which lead to pretty country villages surrounded by vineyards and chestnut woods. The mild year-round climate on this part of the lake encourages the rich Mediterranean vegetation such as magnolias, azaleas and olive groves, making the landscape especially beautiful.
Local restaurants provide delicious, authentic Italian dishes, and there are plenty more choices in the nearby towns that dot the lake’s shore, with Cannobio being closest by.

This is a wonderful hotel full of old world charm and style. I was lucky enough to spend two weeks here in July/August along with my Husband and 88 year old Mum who had not had a holiday abroad for many years.
Our spacious rooms overlooked the beautiful lake and we had a wide, linked balcony between them for ease of access. The beds were very comfortable with a choice of pillows and there was good water pressure in the shower.
The service is first class. The staff were very friendly and helpful and everyone went out of their way to make Mum's holiday special.
We stayed on a half board basis. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, going above and beyond my expectations. The menu, although more limited than the full restaurant menu, changed every night with a good choice of dishes. I do not eat meat or poultry but it was never an issue as there was always a suitable option.
If you are looking for a traditional hotel in a great location, full of character with excellent service and fantastic food this is the place for you. We are looking forward to returning next year.

Perhaps a 3 or a low 4. Had higher expectations really. I suppose it is how you look at it. Rooms were very dated, shabby in my opinion. Travelling with my wife, daughter and son, we had two separate rooms. Beds were pretty uncomfortable compared with other hotels we stayed in on our trip with the same price bracket. Zug, Como, Milan. The children's room had a damp smell which was next to the pool ( no I did not complain) wasn't totally offensive but just a bit, well disappointing. Pool area was packed everyday, not the hotels fault( it is a very old hotel and they can only fit in what is already there) but not really great when we are paying quite a lot of money! I cannot understand when people have said that the breakfast is great. The fruit is great but apart from that there really is little of quality, fruit juice was really watered down, in fact it tasted worse than cordial, hot buffet consisted of beans, scrambled egg and bacon none of which was very appealing. Croissants were awful. Having said this, the location of the hotel is excellent, the outside look of the hotel is very nice and the ambience surrounding the hotel is pleasant. Lake Maggiore is beautiful and this hotel sits directly next to it, overall it was a pleasant stay but not outstanding and this is the reason I would not return to the Hotel Cannero.

In researching hotels in the area, it’s no wonder Hotel Cannero comes so highly recommended.
Located in an old converted monastery right on the Riviera boardwalk & lakefront, this family run hotel provided an amazing start to my time on Lago Maggiore.
As I pulled up in my car, I was met outside immediately and guided to my reserved parking spot (worth booking one!). My bags were removed and swiftly headed for my room. Checkin was friendly with loads of local advice offered if needed - including use of their sister hotel’s (Park Hotel Italia) facilities (spa, gym and motor boat rental) - just a two minute walk along the riviera.
My junior suite room with balcony was wonderful - plenty of space, large bed, air conditioning and, as requested, a lake view balcony at the front of the building.
The staff were all amazing throughout, including the helpful bar staff (with my frequent local wine questions) and the restaurant staff - breakfast each morning was an amazing spread and the one night I ate dinner here, the pasta (ravioli with truffle) was exceptional.
I had a wonderful few nights here, and was genuinely sad to leave and head up the coast to continue my tour of the lake. A wonderful hotel in a stellar location run by exceptional people. Thank you.

But very hard to get to by car (in fact impossible) if you follow google. You have to go down Dante(?) street to the lake shore and then drive slowly along the pedestrian promenade to the left. They have parking.
The hotel would do well to put the route in their description
