Baveno Holidays

Baveno is a quaint town on the banks of Lake Maggiore. A few miles from larger neighbour Stresa, the town has a quiet, unassuming beauty and the kind of charm particular to Italy’s great lakes. A pretty lakeside promenade is the go-to for a cone of gelato or a coffee in the waterfront cafes, stretched between handsome villas out to a small harbour. Set back from the waterfront, the heart of the town is a little clutch of narrow, cobbled streets that emerges out onto a 16th-century square with a beautiful Romanesque church. Baveno is famous for its exquisite pink granite, with quarries that have supplied materials to some of Italy’s best-known monuments, including the impressive Cathedral of Milan. The local museum is worth a visit to learn more about the town’s claim to fame.
