Suggested Trip Itinerary
Day 1 : UK - Lake Como
Arrive at Milan airport and transfer to the stunning shores of Lake Como (approx 1.5 hours), surrounded by majestic peaks and dotted with enchanting lakeside towns. Enjoy the rest of your day exploring the streets of the nearest resort to your hotel. Finish the day with a meal watching the sun set over the lake and you’ll soon see why Lake Como is often considered to be Italy’s most beautiful lake.
Day 2 : Lake Como
The best way to explore the lake is by boat, and for your first full day, we recommend purchasing a centre lake ticket to easily explore the picturesque towns dotted around the lake. Some of the highlights include strolling down the sunny promenades of Menaggio or Tremezzo, and wandering round the cosy souvenir shops of Varenna's grey cobbled streets. Lake Como also boasts an abundance of pretty cafes and restaurants, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding somewhere for your evening meal.
Day 3 : Lake Como
Today, we suggest pre-booking the 'Fabulous Villas of Lake Como and Comacina Island' excursion, which takes you on a breathtaking tour across the lake and past the lake's finest villas. The tour includes the Villa Balbianello featured in the James Bond film 'Casino Royale', and several others belonging to A-list celebrities including George Clooney and Gianni Versace. The journey back will take you via the peaceful Comacina Island, once deserted and now home to a restaurant, church and three artist houses.
Day 4 : Lake Como
Spend the morning exploring the spectacular Orrido Gorge on Lake Como’s east coast, before continuing to one of the nearby towns. Bellano offers a range of restaurants and a popular lido, as well as ferry links around the lake, and nearby Varenna – a petite village nestled beneath the peaks of the Esino Valley. Finish the day with an aperitivo by the lake’s shore in your local resort before dressing up for your last meal in Lake Como.
Day 5 : Lake Como - Venice
Leave the mountains and lakes behind you and travel to Italy’s ‘Floating City' – Venice. Check into your hotel and head out to explore this amazing city. We recommend booking a private gondola ride for a great first look at Venice, as you sail down the labyrinth of canals on the city's oldest form of transport. Finish with a meal by the Grand Canal for the complete experience.
Day 6 : Venice
Today we suggest you pre-book the Walking Tour of Venice excursion to get up close and personal with the city's main attractions, including the Golden Basilica, St Mark’s Clock Tower and The Doge's Palace. After the tour, head to the area around St Mark's Square for designer boutiques such as Prada, Gucci and Armani as well as countless pavement cafes – many of which come with live music accompaniments. Finish the day with a pre-booked opera at Venice’s famous Teatro La Fenice; there’s no better way to experience the ambience of the city.
Day 7 : Venice
Explore the wider delights of the city on the pre-bookable Islands Tour. After sailing past the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the gardens of St. Elena and the Lido, you will arrive at Murano, famous the world over for its glass making. After learning how glass is traditionally blown you will travel by boat to the picturesque island of Burano made up of brightly coloured fishermen's houses and a small network of canals, before finishing with Torcello – one of Venice’s most atmospheric islets. Alternatively, spend the day at Venice Lido – a renowned beach resort packed with stylish piazzas and miles of sandy seafront. At the end of the day, head back to your hotel to dress up for your last meal in Venice.
Day 8 : Venice – UK
Leave fair Venice and head for the Venice Marco Polo Airport for your return flight home.
