About the location
Holidays to Viareggio are perfect for those looking to combine a beach holiday with a cultural adventure. Golden beaches meet Art Déco architecture in one of the best known Tuscan beach resorts. Touring the surrounding areas, you’ll come face to face with
Pisa, home of the famous leaning tower, and the medieval town of
Lucca, where you can immerse yourself in Italian history.
Viareggio was once the go to destination for
Italy’s rich and famous. The composer Puccini lived here in the early 1900s and the villa he built now houses a museum dedicated to his life and music. Nowadays, Viareggio attracts a wide range of holidaymakers. As dusk approaches, many tourists join the locals on their passeggiata, or evening walk along the seafront promenade. Here, families and friends come together and socialise, sometimes sharing a glass of wine or a gelato along the way.
Transfer time
The hotel is 30 minutes from Pisa airport. Return private transfers included. To change your transfers or book car hire instead, simply call us once you’ve completed your booking.

The Good:
(a) Probably the best appointed hotel in Viareggio in terms of style and interior. The rooms are smart, although ours did not have a bath which was surprising, given it as a superior double.
(b) the COVID measures were strong but unobtrusive and without doubt all staff were friendly and spoke excellent English.
(c) the roof top area is great with stunning views and a lovely plunge pool within which to cool down on hot days and the roof top bar is a great place to have a drink.
Bad
(a) the WIFI is poor - which is very frustrating and certainly not part of a 5 star package.
(b) the service was intermittent at best at meals (although always friendly). Food arrived sometimes cold in the evening and had to be sent back and the HB menu was limited and never changed for the week we were there.
(c) the drain in our bathroom smelt and this was not addressed by the room staff.
(d) Room service was hugely expensive - 52 Euros for two toasties and Cokes!!
Overall, pricey and not really a 5 star hotel.
Finally, as a general aside, if the weather is not great (obviously not the hotel's fault), there is not much to do in Viareggio.
Dont think we will be back.

The best night's sleep I've had in ages! The room was exquisite and the staff unobtrusive yet so attentive to our needs. The bar up on the terrace has magificent views of the sea and we will miss the 'aperitivo' during sunset served up with their resident 2 Michelin Star Chef's sublime canapes. I could go on and on..simply thank you to all the staff for making our stay such a memorable one.

We stayed 4 nights at the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte and had the most pleasant stay. The staff was very welcoming and anticipated all our needs. They remembered that I was vegan every morning and as soon as we arrived they already brought special vegan cornetti.
The rooms are well appointed and we stayed in a Imperio room with a breathtaking view of the sea.
The new Covid measures make you feel at easy, without feeling awkward at any moment.
After dinner we enjoyed drinks on the new roof top bar.
The two Michelin star restaurant was a highlight of our stay. The tasting menu is a delight and I highly recommend making sure to dine there one night.
Special thanks to Mr Longo and his team for making our mini vacation in Viareggio so special. Grazie mille.

This is a lovely hotel, great location with great sea views. This review will be a bit picky as this is a 5 star hotel charging top dolllar. We stayed for 8 nights
What we loved - Rooms are a generous size well appointed and we slept really well due to the blackout curtains and comfy beds. We also loved the generous water bottles every night and day. Valet parking is brill as garage and your car is under the hotel so easy to access if you forget something and the roof top pool bar has a great wine list and menu. Staff are super helpful and they all take Covid precautions seriously. There is also an arrangement with a Beach club that works well giving you access to amenities and sun beds etc.
What we didn???t like (remember we are being picky) - the WiFi is a bit dodgy - it???s difficult to watch a film on Netflix for example. The concierge although excellent, did surprise us with taxi bills of 70 euros for a restaurant bill of 180 euros. The restaurant il Regina, service was off and we found it a tricky menu. We didn???t try the 2 Michelin star place as there is no detailed menu and it???s predominantly seafood - not something the wife enjoys.
Overall a lovely hotel, worth the money and I would revisit and recommend.
