Lake Iseo is situated between Lake Garda and Lake Como, and has a relaxed natural beauty. Where the other lakes have seen development and ever-increasing popularity, Lake Iseo’s peaceful charm remains crowd-free.

Nestled between the striking peaks of the Alps, Lake Iseo is an unspoilt destination with some of the prettiest villages in Italy. The lake’s capital, Iseo, is the star destination – a beautiful town set around a picturesque harbour. Set out in the waters is Europe's largest inhabited lake island, Monte Isola. It’s larger than the isle of Capri and is great for cycling.

Lake Iseo is notable for its excellent wine heritage, with the sparkling Franciacorta DOCG being the top tipple, and lots of wineries or vineyards to explore. Brescia’s medieval splendours are just 25 minutes away, and Lake Garda takes less than an hour to reach – perfect for making the most of your time here.

Things to do in Lake Iseo

Lake Iseo’s appeal comes from its scenic beauty and largely crowd-free shoreline. The attractions here are generally based around walking and cycling, although there are foodie delights, too, mainly found in the Franciacorta region, just below Lake Iseo. Known for its sparkling wine, Franciacorta boasts a number of wineries, each of which is open to the public. Floating on the waters of Lake Iseo is Monte Isola, a peaceful island boasting plenty of cycling routes and some of the best views of the water. Of course, it’s just as easy to cycle or hike the trails along the lake’s edge, and you’ll find plenty of quaint villages if you stay close to the water.

Flight Information

The closest airport to Lake Iseo is Verona (VRN). Direct flights to Verona are available from Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Newcastle and Southampton and take approximately 2 hours.

When To Go

Lake Iseo is a summer destination, with the season generally running from April to October. Temperatures are at their hottest in July and August and this is when the towns are at their busiest. Iseo also enjoys a mild climate in spring and autumn with temperatures rarely going beneath 20 degrees, which makes it perfect for visiting at the beginning or end of season; especially if you want to avoid large crowds.

Lake Iseo Specialities

The region of Franciacorta to the south of Lake Iseo is filled with vineyards producing the DOCG sparkling wine of the same name – and Italy’s answer to Champagne. Enjoy this drink with fish freshly caught from the lake. We highly recommend sampling tinca al forna, which is fish baked with garlic, parsley and parmesan.
