- A characteristic, family-run hotel in a prime position in Conca dei Marini
- Magnificent views of the Mediterranean from the restaurant terrace
The characteristic Hotel La Conca Azzurra sits on one of the famous Amalfi Drive bends in an enviable position directly above the sea near the Emerald Grotto.
Taking advantage of its superb panoramic position on a coastal cliffside, each of the 17 spacious guest rooms has a balcony or panoramic veranda with wonderful views over the sea and as far out as Capri. Fresh interiors are comprised of cool whitewashed walls and tiled floors, and rooms are decorated with local Vietri ceramics.
The hotel's restaurant is well known for its excellent regional seafood dishes that can be perfectly complemented by one of the bottles from the extensive wine collection of the owner’s cantina. Even the olive oil for this restaurant is produced from the old olive groves that surround the house.
Before dinner, take advantage of the magnificent views of the Mediterranean from the leafy restaurant terrace, where you can sit back with a refreshing drink and watch the sun set over the few remaining fishing boats. On the tranquil rocky beach, reached via a number of steps and a path, lies a private bathing platform for hotel guests.
Signor Salvatore Criscuolo, whose family originally converted their home into this boutique hotel, has created a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The hotel’s warm hospitality dates back to the 19th century, when the Grand Tour travellers passing by in carriages would stop off for refreshments. There is a painting displayed in the hotel depicting this very scene and, even today, those passing by may stop for a drink.
Due to its location, Citalia recommends car hire for visiting and exploring the nearby areas of Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and Praiano.
The hotel has 17 rooms (official rating 4 star) Child prices apply to ages 2-12 years. Minimum stay 3 nights.

About the location
Conca dei Marini is a tiny fishing village commune with just a handful of amenities, yet there is a quaint rural charm here that can’t be found in many other places along the Amalfi Coast. Relatively untouched by tourism, Conca dei Marini is perhaps best known for being the home of the hidden Grotto dello Smeraldo – a remarkable karst cave that rivals the Blue Grotto found in nearby Capri. Journey inside and the cave will divulge its secret feature – an inner chamber where visitors can witness a dazzling reflection of bright emerald light as the sunlight is dramatically refracted. Elsewhere in this cliffside village you can find a smattering of authentic restaurants, often with mesmerising sea views, as well as a sleepy marina that perfectly encapsulates the charm of the Italian coastline. Better still, Conca dei Marini is just a short drive from Amalfi and Furore, making it easy to explore these stunning towns during your getaway.

Hotel Welcome
- Bags taken to our room while the receptionist showed us around the hotel which was lovely.
Bedroom
- All rooms have the most magnificent sea view and we had a private balcony. The room was very clean and great housekeeping.
Hotel Restaurant
- Brilliant food with vegetables grown in their own gardens and olive oil from their orchard. As buses stop at 7pm we had to eat at the hotel most nights as a taxi between the hotel and Amalfi is ???50. The Friday night menu is more expensive and in our opinion not quite as good as mid-week. The owner Salvatore speaks to all of his guests over dinner every night which is a wonderful personal touch.
- Breakfast is a selection of pastries, cheese, cured meat and fruit which was great for us. There are hot options available at an extra cost.
Bar
- The hotel bar wasn't open which was disappointing as we had no where to get a drink at night. I assume this was due to fewer guests at the hotel because of Covid.
Sunbathing platform
- NOT IMPRESSED!
- There is a private sunbathing platform at the hotel which is great however you do have to walk down the cliff and therefore back up heart attack hill when you???re done. However I would say it???s worth it for the view and serenity. The main issues are that there was no snack bar available so you have to bring lots of water down with you.
- The real kicker was that we were told it cost ???6 to use the sunbathing platform. At the end of our stay we were told its actually ???6 PER PERSON, PER HOUR!! So if you want to spend a day in the sun (say 6 hours) that???s ???36 per person per day!
Travel
- There is a bus outside the hotel which takes you towards Sorrento and Amalfi that runs every 30 minutes however the bus was regularly full so you could be waiting an hour. You can get tickets from reception. There is also a boat outside the hotel that takes you direct to Amalfi for ???5 each. The last bus from Amalfi to the hotel is 7pm but make sure to get there early so you get a spot on the bus as a taxi back to the hotel is ???50.
TIPS
- Lemon tour is worth every penny! For ???25 each you get a tour of the lemon groves, a piece of homemade lemon cake with limoncello and try a lemon from the garden.
I would say this hotel is more suited to couples than families.

The owner is extremely attentive, professional and kind, and always available for any necessities you may have. The rooms have a beautiful view overlooking the sea, with fantastic views from the hotel of the islands of Li Galli and Capri!
The hotel Also has an excellent restaurant, which is an added bonus for who wants to have a relaxing stay and enjoy the romantic atmosfere of the coast with very delicious, fresh, typical food after a day or sightseeing.
I highly recommend it! Made our experience of visiting this beautiful and very atmosferic part of Italy even more unforgettable.

Looking out ecstatically from the Calajanara restaurant ( having just swum in the deep blue Med. below ) over the moonlit sea of Ulysses and the Sirens to the magical Faraglioni of Capri on the horizon , the genius loci of the place , like Arthurian Tintagel, would have been more than enough to make for a moment inside myth...but there is even an extra, the distinguished, charismatic host Salvatore Criscuolo, with his discreet finesse and a touch of Oscar Wilde's wit, not to mention the exquisite cuisine, made our stay absolutely exhilarating and unforgettable.

Came here for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint. The staff including the owner and his adorable family were warm and friendly, you're in the prettiest spot on earth which is nestled between Amalfi and Positano which makes it a perfect jumping off point. The only annoying thing? Mosquitoes. It was just that time of the year along the coast and they do a pretty good job keeping them out of your room but if you're eating at night on the deck - get some bug spray first and then go eat :).
