Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used To Make

Popular TV Chef Gino D’Acampo, is taking to our screens once again with his latest food show, Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used to Make. It aired on Sunday 4th September 2022 on ITV at 7:30pm. This 6-part series offers a new episode each week and will see Gino taking us on a tasty tour around his beloved Italy. If you want to try some of the dishes featured and tried by Gino in the show, then Citalia can help you book your own Italian adventure. So, let’s look at some of the places he will be visiting…

Torre Del Greco

The show kicks off in Gino’s hometown of Torre del Greco, a commune in the city of Naples. This is where his love for cooking started as he was taught by his late Nonna Flora and his Mamma Alba here. Torre del Greco is essentially a maritime town so you should definitely head down to the harbour and pick out some fresh fish at the vibrant market on your visit here.

Procida

An island in the Bay of Naples, Gino will also be paying a visit to Italy’s Capital of Culture 2022, Procida. Nestled on a steep cliff side, the main town of Corricella is filled with lots of colour. Wind your way through the historic streets that are filled with local restaurants – why not try some of Gino’s favourite dishes here?

Sardinia

Villa D’Acampo, located in Sardinia, is where Gino spends half the year. This Mediterranean island paradise has white sands and sparkling blue seas. Gino pays a visit to the Blue Zone where people live to be 100 years old, which is down to the fantastic Mediterranean diet consisting of olive oil, pasta and breads.

Arezzo

We will also see Gino pay a visit to the Tuscan city of Arezzo. It is a place ideal for art lovers and shopping fans and has an enchanting Medieval square. Here you will find some delicious local cuisine made with fresh products from the nearby Casentino and Valdichiana Valley’s – see if you can spot some of Gino’s dishes here.

Bologna

Bologna is another stop on Gino’s Italian tour. One of Italy’s most elegant and exciting cities, the food culture here is worth shouting about. Head to the central piazza and you’re bound to find someone making fresh pasta. Pair this with some locally made burrata and you’re in for a treat!

Florence

To complete Gino's tour stops, he takes us to Florence in the series. The beating heart of Tuscany, it is a vibrant city nestled in the picturesque hills. With plenty of Michelin starred restaurants and the famous Mercato Centrale you will be spoiled for choice when searching for some of Gino’s plates. Buon appetito!
