About the location
Situated at the southern end of the lake, Garda is one of the main destinations along the coastline and enjoys a great location just 20 miles from Verona. It’s one of the most traditional resorts on the lake, offering the joint charms of a medieval centre and a pretty waterfront promenade.
The centre of the town is one of the most atmospheric found anywhere along Lake Garda’s shore, with winding alleyways and historic palazzos characterising the area. Be sure to visit some of the sights here, including the 16th-century Church of Santa Maria Assunta, known for its stunning gilded interior. You’ll also find as many independent craft shops as boutiques here, as well as plenty of authentic eateries and cute cafes.
The whole charming affair is watched over by the majestic Rocca di Garda – a huge rocky outcrop topped by the ruins of a 5th-century castle. The climb up can be challenging, but the views at the top are well worth it. When it comes to seeing more of the area, Verona is a top pick, being just over 30 minutes’ drive from the town.

Lovely traditional family run hotel. Excellent friendly staff and service. Hotel is small, only 2 levels, and ???old fashioned??? in a good way. The hotel is back up a small slope away from the busy main lake road so you don???t really hear the noise. Offer is breakfast only but they do a lunchtime menu. Breakfast was adequate and they cook fresh omelettes, fried egg or scrambled if you want. Don???t expect a full English though. Bar available all day and evening. Medium sized ???solar??? heated pool (so not heated!) very quiet and always beds available if you want a dip after a day out sightseeing. Room was large with balcony facing the lake. Very clean but was a bit dated and could do with a bit an update. Bathroom very small and shower was tiny, no room to bend really to wash your legs and you can???t put your arms out. You need a bit of patience with the water flow to get the right temperature. Bidet was pretty impossible to use at my height of 5???7??? as so close to the shower. Single beds pushed together, as is the tradition, fairly comfortable but the air con was very noisy so we turned it off at night. You do tend to hear others upstairs if on the first floor and chairs scraping downstairs but quiet at night and most guests looked older with many returning year on year. The hotel is a 5 -10min walk to the little town and lakeside/ferry. Good restaurants to walk to/visit are Pegaso, about 10mins away; Osteria Mandolina, about 10-12 mins who do great spaghetti with mixed fish in a yummy tomato sauce, Pizzeria Jolly about 15 mins. Avoid La Bussola as it was all pre cooked and horrid and although you can get a discount card at the hotel we didn???t find Osteria Sylvestro, the nearest to the hotel, that good either. Generally found the prices similar to the UK for eating out and drinks similar to. Not sure we would return as not really our ???thing??? but as said many seem to and book directly with the hotel.

We have just returned from a wonderful 11 days in Lake Garda. This hotel gives meaning to the phrase 'great things come in little packages'! The staff were attentive, food was good, and location was everything! Loved the pool area - always plenty of sunbeds and never crowded. Amazing cleaning service - unobtrusive, fast and efficient. Would say the hotel is best suited to couples rather than families. Had a very genteel air about it! Hope to return...

One of the nicest hotels we have been to. The family who own and run the hotel have done an excellent job of ensuring that guests have a very relaxing holiday. Location is perfect - just a few minutes walk from the town, bus and ferry connections, but very peaceful. Nice swimming pool and well-maintained gardens and terraces.
Rooms very clean (thanks to the excellent and unobtrusive cleaning staff), bed very comfortable.
The staff are all very friendly, with a good sense of humour. Special mention to Corrado on front desk and to Carmen, Dana and Michele who served breakfast and lunch and were so attentive and patient.
We can 100% recommend the Hotel Garden!

Breakfast was a highlight, eggs of your choice cooked to order, served by friendly staff. The rest of the choices were buffet style and plentiful, replenished when needed. The bread was amazing too.
The room we were allocated was on the first floor with lake view, only the very tall trees obscured our view, perhaps they could be trimmed a little.
Room had a free very small digital safe, would not fit an iPad or our camera.
Bathroom had the usual requirements, the only disappointment was the shower pressure, it was one of the worst we have experienced, we didn???t mind the small cubicle!
Towels were changed daily and were large and fluffy. Pool towels in room on arrival.
No tea/coffee making facilities, we knew this and took our own, there is a mini bar fridge so we bought fresh milk.
There was plenty of hanging, shelf and drawer space for clothes etc.
In the room you are given a handle hanger for do not disturb (red) and come in (green), when we were later going out we put the red side to show the room was not available for cleaning, the maid completely ignored this, knocked, must have counted to three as I couldn???t get there before she unlocked the door!
It happened again on check out day, time to vacate room given as 11am, but again she unlocked our door at 10am before we could answer it, she even had our door hanger in her hand!! Just a bit of training on this would eliminate the issue. Other guests had also spoken about this issue.
We ate lunch once at the hotel and it was very good and served by the same staff from breakfast so very happy with that. A daily special is given every day.
Being early May the pool was cold, but even so people were using it. There were plenty of sun beds around at this time of year.
The bar was well used in the evening by lots of couples, only one night was a bit rowdy with a group of men enjoying themselves.
In general the hotel has a lovely feel to it, an older guest dynamic, staff were friendly and always said hello, they answered any questions we had in our weeks stay.
We would definitely stay again when visiting Garda.
