Albergo Lenno

Would be ok to stay her for a couple of days but not much longer than that. We were here for 9 days and it was too long. Apart from taking ferry rides to different places there is not else much to do.

The overall impression we got from Albergo Lenno was one of dissapointment. We had travelled from the beautiful Hotel Vigna in Salo on the shores of Lake Garda, which was a truly fabulous stay, and we were expecting Albergo Lenno to be at least equal to it, especially as it cost an €50 extra a night to stay there. Sadly our expectiations were not met. Our check-in was efficient, but no greeting from the lady on reception, who seemed somewhat aloof, and who just did the bare minimum of copying our passports, giving us the room key, and directions to the room. There was no inquiry as to whether we needed help with our luggage, parking arrangements etc. We had booked for an 8 day stay, which in hindsight was probably 3 or 4 days too long, considering we didn't have a car and had to rely on the local buses and boats to get around. We had exhausted most accessible local excursions by half way through our stay, and didn't particularly want to stay by the pool every day, though some people of course prefer to do this. Lenno itself seemed a little run down, with graffiti along some parts of the waterfront. There is a limited choice of restaurants and bars, maybe half a dozen or so, some of which were occasionally closed. None of the waterfront restaurants have a particularly good rating. A couple of supermarkets in the town serve the basics. The views of the lake, as you can imagine are pretty wonderful, and there is a regular ferry service to other parts of the lake that is inexpensive. Our room on the 2nd floor (all rooms are on the top two floors), was spacious enough, with a large bed, plus a wide opening window overlooking the outside pool, and with a side view of the lake. There was a very basic wardrobe, with a single high shelf, plus a rail and hangars. There was also a desk with a small fridge underneath. There was no set of drawers, so underwear etc. had to be placed on the top shelf of the wardrobe, which would be unreachable if you were short. There was also a single easy chair, plus a hard wooden one for the desk. There was also a very old shabby wardrobe adjacent to the entrance door, but this was just a storage place for extra pillows, and not usable for clothes. The bathroom was quite large, modern, and with a double rainfall shower, plus a large mirror over the wash basin. Probably the best feature of the room. However, there were no drinking glasses in the bathroom, just single use plastic and card cups. No Bath Robes or Slippers were provided. Wi-fi is generally only available close to reception, so the further away you are the worse your internet connection is. I would have thought in this day and age, where everyone relies on a good internet connection, that there should at least be a wi-fi router on each floor. There is an outside unheated pool, which was reqularly used, especially on the sunny days. However, there are no adjacent changing rooms or showers, so you had to do this is you own bedroom. Breakfast was always an interesting affair. Depending on what time you arrived there were different choices still available. By and large the staff mostly did try and replenish items, but there were several occasions where some regular items were missing, and never replaced. If you were to ask a staff member if they had a specific item (eg: do you have any more melon), the anwser was generally "NO", that's all, not "I'll see if I can get some for you". Apart from the usual cold items the only hot items were scrambled eggs and bacon. The breakfast items available did not change at all during our stay. On one occasion, I had the audacity to ask for a soft boiled egg at breakfast, only to be told "only scrambled" from the waiting staff. Another guest make the same request, and of course got a similar response. The surly breakfast staff I don't think could raise a smile between them. Later in the week I again plucked up courage to ask if there was any melon to accompany my ham - "no" was the firm reply, even though it had been available all the previous days. There were also signs staying "No Takeaway", and strangely one for "Tips" with an adjacent Dish. All in all, I feel we had made the wrong choice of hotel in Lenno, and for €200 a night I would have expected a little more quality.

Perfect location on the lake especially if you get a front room with a terrace. Friendly staff cannot do too much for you and Restaurant is excellent overlooking lake. On the downside breakfast could be improved but is adequate . With car parking and ferry terminal opposite this is a comfortable stay in the perfect location for Lake Como,
