Modena Cathedral

Positioned in the heart of the city is the Duomo di Modena, otherwise known as Modena’s Cathedral. Built in the Romanesque style, it is characterised by arches positioned against sharp angles. This style was popular in medieval Europe and eventually led to the Gothic movement. Its wonderful façade is divided into three sections where you’ll see small sculptures and niches. Next to the Cathedral, on the Northern side is the Ghirlandina belltower which soars over the city.
Its interior appears modest, making use of traditional brick work and large supporting columns, however, as you walk forward you’ll see the beautiful altar adorned in gold detailing relaying scenes from the bible.
