About the location
Everyone knows about Pisa’s Leaning Tower and magnificent baroque basilica, but look behind these brochure cover stars and you’ll find an array of modem museums, picturesque piazzas and exceptional restaurants vying for your attention. Of course, the city’s wonky bell tower is its main draw and is entirely deserving of its worldwide fame. Taking a novelty photo in front of the tower is great fun – book ahead if you want to climb to the top to avoid the queues. The entire area, known as the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and packs plenty of appeal. Along with the tower, you can visit landmarks including the 11th-century marble-clad duomo and the remarkable baptistery, believed to be the largest in Italy.
Wander just a few streets away and you’ll discover a much more typical Pisan scene; locals milling about beneath rustic townhouses, and bustling cafes nestled in peaceful squares. Piazza de Cavalieri and Piazza Dante are two such examples of the authentic Pisa that many miss. Pisa’s botanical gardens are also worth a visit, and feature numerous rare plants set in surprisingly tranquil surroundings, especially considering their location is just a 10-minute stroll from the city’s famous Leaning Tower.

Currently staying at the NH Pisa and we cannot fault the hotel, staff nor location. We were greeted by Sylvia on our day of arrival who was very welcoming, chatty, spoke excellent English and was all too happy to recommend places to visit. Room service are brilliant too, when at home we are up at the crack of dawn to tend to our dogs, when on holiday we do not rush and are known to rise at 10am +, we pop the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door and the leave us until later, we arrive back each day to a spotless room, today they forgot to leave clean towels so I requested some by a QR code they give you on check in, and we had them delivered to our room within 10 minutes. Pis train station is quite literally 50 yards over the road, there???s an abundance of cafes, bars and restaurants nearby, the Tower is a 15 minute walk and the botanical garden are about the same. It???s a beautiful place to visit, made all the more complete by our stay at NH Pisa, our only trip is there???s no kettle in the room, and I???m a coffee addict!

Poor value for money ??? very disappointing stay
Excellent location next to Pisa Centrale and friendly reception staff, but that???s where the positives end. My single room was small, dingy, and had a dreadful view, with a strong, unpleasant smell of cleaning fluid throughout. No English TV channels, no bar, and no real public areas to relax in.
At ??145 per night with no breakfast, this was possibly one of the worst value hotel stays I???ve ever had. I???d welcome an explanation from NH management as to how they justify such pricing ??? I certainly wouldn???t recommend this hotel.

Inaccessible by car due to the traffic pattern in front of the hotel and train station. Lazy, unpleasant front desk put a couple in a two story suite with a staircase. The standard room was fine but the door handle was in disrepair. Inadequately staffed. No one to help unload car on the corner or help with luggage at a supposed four star hotel.

We stayed for three nights and the hotel was ideally situated for us across from the railway station as we were travelling by train.
It???s a lovely bright modern hotel very clean with quite spacious room and bathroom. The breakfast was very good and had plenty of choice. The bed is very comfortable and we had three good night sleeps.
We did have a problem with the A/C in our room and the staff were very helpful and did their best to rectify it.

I would definitely not recommend staying here. Maintenance issues are clearly a known problem but staff ignore them. On arrival at the hotel the air con was not working in our room (error message on the unit). We rang the reception and asked to switch to another room because it was stifling (south facing large window) but were told that there were no other rooms as the hotel was full and the technician would visit to solve the issue within half an hour so we waited in. An hour later nothing had happened so we went to the reception. A quick google of trip advisor previous reviews showed that broken air con and poor staff attitude to fixing issues were a problem. At the reception we were told that the maintenance technician had only just come on duty so there was no way that he was ever going to solve the issue in half an hour. Again we asked to move rooms and, magically, a different room was found. We moved all of our luggage to the new room only to find that none of the lights worked in the room. As this point we were really fed up and went out to dinner leaving reception to solve the problem in our absence. On our return we were told that the problem was fixed but when we got to the room it wasnt fixed at all. The problem was being caused by the room key card not staying in the holder on the wall which activated the lights. At this point we realised that the staff had no desire to actually address these issues and just saw us an an inconvenience. Luckily I had some microporous tape in my bag which I used to tape the key card into the holder so that the lights worked. This was meant to be a superior room. On checking out the next morning we reported the issue but I got no confidence that the staff intended to actually do anything about the problem before the next residents arrived. The whole staff approach just felt lazy and we were made to feel like we were being unreasonable for wanting either air con or lights in our room. These problems are clearly repeating issues because other reviews have highlighted them but nothing has been done and it is the guests who suffer as a result of that approach. The hotel was just under 200 euros for a night (no breakfast). Honestly, book somewhere else that does value your custom.
