About the location
One of Tuscany’s most prominent spa towns, Montecatini Terme is an intoxicating blend of historic architecture, beautiful scenery and some great local attractions. The area has been inhabited as far back as 10,000 BC, thanks mainly to the impressive natural spa located in the town. Today, however, the town mostly dates from the medieval period, and offers plenty of historic sites for you to explore.
Like many of the towns in the region, this one is split between a lower and upper section, known as Montecatini Bassa (lower) and Montecatini Alto (upper). One of the best ways to go between the two sections is via the town’s historic funicular railway, which has been running since 1888. The upper town is most historic, with pretty cobbled lanes, stunning views and a 12th-century church. The town’s spas are also located here, and are some of the best known in all of Tuscany. While spa treatments have modernised, there are many original spas still standing, including the grand Tettuccio Terme – one of the region’s best.
Montecatini Terme is just over 40 minutes’ drive from Pisa and Florence, so you’ve got plenty of day trip options during your stay here.
Transfer time
Car hire is recommended for this hotel. Montecatini is 31 miles from Florence and 32 miles from Pisa. Simply call us once you’ve completed your booking and we will talk you through the options.

I spent a week at the Francia e Quirinale Hotel in Montecatini and let me tell you what a wonderful experience I had.
It made my trip so special!
Firstly, the location is ideal???a perfect base for daily trips to all the popular destinations in Tuscany, such as Florence, Pisa, Lucca, and Siena. What???s especially nice is being able to return each evening to the peaceful and relaxing environment of Montecatini, away from the busy tourist crowds.
Train station and bus station are in walking distance with plenty of rides every hour.
If you want a lazy day instead, the hotel also has a.pool!
The town itself offers a surprising number of excellent restaurants, all in walking distance. You???ll get a true local experience. Try the steak! Be aware that you???ll be jailed if you ask anything cooked over medium rare. So choose wisely.
Moreover there are quite a few lively bars for an aperitivo or a nightcap close by.
The city is very quiet during the day but unexpectedly it turns quite buzzy at night, very fun!
If you are looking for a night in, get spoiled by the staff and enjoy the stylish hotel lounge.
The vibes are classic but modern, chic but cozy.
Literally obsessed with the upholstery and the trimming of every piece of furniture!
Food, drinks and service are top notch.
From the huge continental breakfast, to the delicious meals prepared daily by the chef, to the cocktails made by the amazing Roberto.
As far as my room, I booked a single with a balcony on a side street so it was super quiet, breezy and bright.
All amenities were provided, including a Tv, a safe and a mini fridge, which was so convenient!
I haven???t mentioned yet what truly made my stay unforgettable though and the main reason why I am writing this 10/10 review.
THE STAFF AT FRANCIA E QUIRINALE!
ALL members of the staff went the extra mile to take care of me.
From the reception team ( so helpful and funny) to housekeeping team, (spotless venue) to the breakfast ladies (so so lovely!) to the gentlemen in charge of the restaurant and bar (first class service)
Can???t say enough good things about them.
Professional, attentive, kind but most importantly, genuine people.
Including the trendiest and most hospitable mother and daughter duo: Anna Maria and Alessandra, still running the family hotel after many generations. Anna ????????????
They all made me feel more like a guest in someone???s home rather than a guest in a hotel.
So thank you to Giuseppe, Catia, Fabio, Viola, Roberto, Martina and all the rest of the wonderful people that took care of me.
Forgive me if I forgot to mention some of you by name, you were such a big team!
Kudos to you all for your great work!
Can???t wait to be back.
Love,
Emma.

Stayed for several nights as part of a group. Exterior is very welcoming with plenty of seating and well maintained - cleaned every morning and all the plants watered etc. Reception and bar areas were very pleasant, well decorated and comfortable. Pool area also great. Dining room was very large - as a group we were allocated the same tables for breakfast and the times we were there for evening meal. My bedroom - allocated a single room on the 5th floor with a small balcony. Was pleasant enough and the bed was comfortable which is the main thing. Furniture was a bit dated though and talking to others, their rooms were much more spacious than mine. Shower wasn't good at all - water pressure was very bad and fluctuated regularly. Food - breakfast had a good selection of cereals, fruit, warm items, bread, meat, cheeses, fruit etc. Very satisfactory and tea / coffee served at the table. Evening meal - as we were a large group it was a set menu with limited choices. All adequate but more choice would have been good. Appreciate the hotel would have been working to a budget set by our tour operator though. Staff - all extremely pleasant and friendly from reception to the bar to the restaurant staff to the cleaning staff. Location - a great base in a lovely little town with numerous places to eat / drink / sit and watch the world go by. Very large park just at the top of the road.
Overall, apart from the niggles with the room had a lovely relaxing time here and would happily stay again.

Just to say that we very much enjoyed our visit to Hotel Francia e Quirinale. The hotel is very comfortable but the outstanding quality is the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. In particular, we would like to acknowledge all the staff on reception and the courtesy and kindness of Roberto in the bar.
We are hoping to return to Italy in 2026 and hope that we will get to stay with this hotel again.

My husband and I stayed 7 nights with a tour group. The photos of the rooms are misleading. Our room had not been updated in decades and was a little small. No room for an easy chair or desk. Also, be aware that there is no kettle or coffee-maker in the room. If you want coffee or tea and it's not breakfast time, you would have to go down to the bar and pay for one. Those are the cons. On the pro side, the housekeeping was excellent, as was the service at the bar and the front desk. The staff are all very friendly. The people at the front desk and in the bar speak good English. Everything worked, including the A/C and the elevators. The bed was comfortable. Shower had great pressure. Nice balcony. Mini-fridge with bottled water provided in room. Breakfast was fine; nothing fancy. They had bacon and eggs, cold cuts and cheese, 2 kinds of juice, yogurt, cereal, croissants and salad. It was the same every day. No fried potatoes, olives or omelette station here. The restaurant's prices for dinner were high, but if you just want a pizza or a sandwich, the bar was pretty reasonable. Convenient location within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops.
