Walk Along the Promenade

A great way to soak up all the Italian flavour of Tuscany's coast is to take a stroll along the palm-lined promenade of its largest beach resort, Viareggio. On one side lies the sparkling sea and golden sandy beach with row upon row of synchronised deck chairs, and on the other the historic Liberty-era buildings and grand hotels; all against the mountainous backdrop of the Alpi Apuane.

This long stretch is the perfect place for people watching, indulging in a little shopping or grabbing a bite to eat in one of the many cafes, restaurants and bars; the most famous being the Gran Caffe Margherita where Italian composer Giacomo Puccini was a regular patron.
