Visit Lucca

Situated within half an hour of Pisa, the historic city of Lucca sits hidden behind its imposing Renaissance walls, offering tourists a delightful maze of cobbled streets, quaint piazzas and shady promenades. No visit would be complete without exploring the great 17th-century walls that surround the city, originally designed to protect those inside they have now been pedestrianised and are the perfect place to enjoy a walk or ride a bike whilst admiring views over Lucca.

Wandering the streets, you'll stumble across many churches, perhaps the most impressive being San Michele in Foro. Built where the Roman forum once stood, the building's upper section remains incomplete with its grand façade standing alone. Also impressive and a must-visit is the Torre Guinigi; this 130-foot red brick tower provides great views across Lucca, and visitors who manage the climb to the top are not just rewarded with views, but a garden complete with ancient oak trees - the perfect photo op.
