A 4* historic hotel in Florence
Conveniently placed in the heart of the city
Restaurant with panoramic views and rooftop garden (open seasonally)
Once a former residence of Prince Carrega di Lucedio, Grand Hotel Baglioni is one of Florence's oldest hotels. The classic dark Florentine furnishing means that this 4 star hotel offers comfortable old-world style accommodation, romance and comfort.
Built in the latter half of the 19th century, the hotel first opened its doors in 1904, welcoming the illustrious composer Giuseppe Verdi as its very first guest. Since then, many famous faces have enjoyed staying in one of the hotel’s spacious 193 rooms, so you’re in good company when staying here. A permanent photo exhibition charting the hotel’s evolution from princely residence to sumptuous Florentine hotel is on display in the lobby and provides a fascinating insight into the building’s past.
Grand Hotel Baglioni is located right in the heart of Florence - very close to Florence’s Santa Maria Novella station and only a few minutes walk from the bustling Mercato Centrale. Mingle with the locals and enjoy some delicious Florentine street food, take in an exhibition, listen to live music and shop till you drop in independent boutiques.
No trip to Florence would be complete without a little sightseeing - there are monuments and galleries to explore as well as quiet courtyards and cobbled streets to discover wherever you go. The Duomo is just five minutes away, so be sure to stroll the bustling streets for a taste of Tuscan city life. But by far our favourite way of seeing Florence is more sedentary. Head up to the hotel’s rooftop bar, order a spritz and enjoy some of the best views in the city.
The hotel has 193 rooms (official rating 4 star). Child prices apply to ages 2-11 years.
Minimum stay 3 nights on specific dates.
In order to appreciate Florence at its best, you need to appreciate its food! Grand Hotel Baglioni’s in house restaurant ticks all the boxes - traditional, melt-in-the-mouth Florentine dishes (think wild boar pappardelle, among others), reinvented by the hotel’s expert chefs. All this is set against a backdrop of Florence’s medieval skyline, where in warm weather you can dine under the stars.

Packed full of Renaissance romance, this is the place to absorb world-class artworks by masters such as Botticelli and Michelangelo, feast on fabulous Florentine food and enjoy extraordinary architecture. Brimming with 15th and 16th palaces, every street in this UNESCO World Heritage Site is an absolute delight. The overwhelmingly beautiful city is compact and easy to get around, particularly if you are on foot. Every stroll reveals something new, whether it’s your first visit or your 50th.
As the capital of Tuscany, expect world-class food and wine everywhere you go. If you do want to venture outside of the city, then a short train ride (Grand Hotel Baglioni is just 600 metres from the train station) will take you to Tuscan big hitters such as Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano and Assisi.
If however, you do just want to stay in the city, then simply admiring the beauty of the River Arno (go at different times in the day, so you can witness the changing light) is one of our favourite pastimes. Take in the pyrotechnics of the sunset over Piazzale Michelangelo as well and you’ll soon see why Florence is one of our favourite places in the world.
