Small Group Accademia Gallery and Uffizi Tour

  • An expert guide will talk you through the galleries' world-famous collections
  • See the most important masterpieces that Florence has to offer.

The Accademia Gallery in Florence is world-renowned for its impressive collection of Renaissance sculptures. This excursion gives you the opportunity to experience the gallery with an expert guide, giving you better insight into the history of these great works of art.

Perhaps the most famous piece in the Accademia is Michelangelo’s David. The sculpture is often considered one of Michelangelo’s greatest works; the biblical tale of David defeating the giant Goliath was intended to be a metaphor for the then small town of Florence defeating its larger neighbouring cities The sculpture was originally placed outside the town hall, but was later moved to the gallery to preserve it from weathering, and is the Accademia's star attraction. Don't miss out on its other great works of art on display, though; you can find paintings by Botticelli, Ghirlandaio and Perugino among others. Just ask your tour guide for more recommendations.

After your visit at the Accademia you will have free time for lunch.

Next, The Uffizi Gallery is one of the most famous art galleries on the planet. Situated in the birthplace of the Renaissance, home to many great masters of Italian art, it’s no wonder such a fine collection of art remains here.

The collection starts from the early Renaissance, where you’ll find artists like Cimabue and Giotto, who were beginning to experiment with the fundamentals of linear perspective. Next, it reaches the height of the Renaissance period, where you’ll notice the style of painting changes. You'll recognise some of the artists here, including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael. You’ll be able to see how art has changed over the years, from subject matter to artistic style. Once the tour is over, you’ll have the opportunity to wander at your own leisure.

Once the tour is finished, you can stay in the gallery for as long as you like to have a wander around in your own time.
