About the location
An Aeolian Island adrift from Sicily’s northern shore, mysterious Vulcano is an island well worth unpicking. A favourite of visitors looking for the unexplored, Vulcano’s beautiful volcanic landscape means fantastic hiking, black-sand beaches and natural mud springs. It’s quickly earning its spot on Italy’s ‘volcano trail’; you can reach its peak, Fossa di Vulcano, in around three hours. Vulcano Porto, the main town, is filled with a handful of restaurants and shops, but it’s really Vulcano’s remoteness that is the basis of its appeal – and mystery. It’s not hard to see why the island crops up in Greek myth; according to legend, the Romans named the island after the god Vulcan, believing the smoking volcano to be the chimney of his workshop.

Therasia was a gem and we decided to stay on the Isola Vulcano for our 30th anniversary. Having never been to Sicily before, we did not know what to expect. From our warm and special welcome experience to our needs and desires for the week, the staff was beyond attentive. Full day stays on the island were magical. From luscious breakfasts to picturesque sunsets - simply breathtaking. Day excursions were delightful, but we found ourselves wanting to be back at the property. The Michelin Star restaurants and chefs earned those stars. We swam in the pools and easily made our way to the ocean each day . Maria at the spa made certain that we were delighted beyond belief. Our only disappointment was actually having to check out! Sicily is beautiful, The Aeolian Islands are remarkable, and Therasia Resort and Spa is the diamond within the volcanic rough! Do yourself a favor and go, stay and truly enjoy each and every moment and be sure and buy yourself a little something at Acitavoli - a ceramic studio and jewelry shop. Gino & Robinsue

My stay at Therasia Resort sea & spa was nowhere near a long enough stay. My friend and I have been traveling throughout Italy and this was our second to last stop & truly wishing this is where we stayed the entire time. When we arrived to this little slice of heaven we were greeted by Serena she told us to follow her for a little welcome gift while they took care of our luggage. We sat down and was given a delicious sorbet to cool us off from our travels. Mind you it was a 12 hour day of traveling. But once arriving here we were awaken by the natural beauty of the property and were ready to explore and enjoy this beautiful island and all that it has to offer. We were given a quick tour of the hotel and the different amenities they offer. We were originally supposed to stay in the Basiluzzo suite but they upgraded our room to the Panorama suite. This was by far one of the most beautiful suites I have ever stayed in. We had 3 balconies, two full bathrooms which were quite large. And 2 day beds in addition to our king size bed. With an absolutely breathtaking view wherever you turned. The staff were all amazing as well as the chefs they have at the resort. We had dinner at I Tenerumi which was one of the Michelin star restaurants on the property that is fully vegetarian. I normally don’t eat vegetarian but it was a real treat and amazing experience. And a must try for all veggie lovers. Apart from the food and staff the spa portion of the resort was my favorite. I go for massages quite often and it’s hard for me to find a masseuse who actually gives my body relief. I’ve had a back surgery years ago and still live with pain. So when I find a masseuse who helps me I take full advantage of the time I have with them. And then I was lucky enough to meet Maria! She literally has the most gifted hands from God. She took the time to understand my problem areas and gave the perfect amount of pressure to relieve those areas. I felt like a new woman leaving so much so that I booked another appointment the following day. I will a 100000% come back and spend more time here at Therasia Resort sea & spa. If you can book a stay now because you won’t be disappointed and you’ll be able to see the little slice of heaven they have there at Vulcano isle.

What we loved most apart from the views: it’s just a serene and peaceful place. There was a wedding during our stay but even that did not bother us for one second. Always enough space to sit or lie down and relax. A lot of friendly and helpful staff, from morning until night. We loved our stay there!

The breakfast is very complete but small egg/waffle portions. Also, you can’t serve yourself (it seems since COVID). This should change as having to ask for someone to come and cut a piece of bread can get boring.
The gym is mediocre. Not all machines worked well and almost no AC.
Almost 3/4 restaurants are tasting menu. I understand the Michelin stars but Il Archipiélago should have a bigger A la carté menu. Also, the restaurant by the pool (only one opened for lunch) has only a few good dishes.
Most importantly, there is NO BEACH. If your plan is to stay in the hotel then you have to sunbath around the pool. To get to the ocean you have to descend several stairs and then finally a staircase.
Overall, we had a good time. But would not go back. It is not a cheap hotel and there are several major flaws.
