About the location
An Aeolian Island adrift from Sicily’s northern shore, mysterious Vulcano is an island well worth unpicking. A favourite of visitors looking for the unexplored, Vulcano’s beautiful volcanic landscape means fantastic hiking, black-sand beaches and natural mud springs. It’s quickly earning its spot on Italy’s ‘volcano trail’; you can reach its peak, Fossa di Vulcano, in around three hours. Vulcano Porto, the main town, is filled with a handful of restaurants and shops, but it’s really Vulcano’s remoteness that is the basis of its appeal – and mystery. It’s not hard to see why the island crops up in Greek myth; according to legend, the Romans named the island after the god Vulcan, believing the smoking volcano to be the chimney of his workshop.

Wonderful resort in a wonderful setting. Our stay was enchanting thanks to the attentive and super helpful staff who advised and assisted us with the organisation of our activities, transfers, tours, etc. Thanks also to the staff in the different restaurants and bar. The food was delicious in the different places, but we will keep a special place in our memories for the delightful I Tenerumi, which is a fantastic total experience of refined and delicious vegetarian food, matching drinks, mind blowing views, and informal garden sitting.

I visited the hotel with my kids and parents hoping to spend a great holiday. I can only say that the expectations have been exceeded... the location is breathtaking, the breakfast is delicious but what really made the difference and made the experience memorable was Mariangela at the guest service: she went above and beyond her duties to accomodate and anticipate every need and desire. We will be back next year!

A beautiful LHW resort with excellent service and amazing views of the Mediterranean. Our room had a balcony with a view. There were friendly staff that arranged a boat trip, a car, you name it. The Mediterranean restaurant went out of their way to make us happy. We ate at the vegetarian restaurant and it was fine but not sure who eats 16 course meal. We couldn’t. But hands down amazing resort.

We were here for three nights in July; even though our plan was to move to another island after two nights. The hotel is amazing in all senses, rooms, service, spa, food, views…
Their four restaurants are exceptional, from the Michelin-starred Il Cappero to the Pool Restaurant I Grusoni where fish is prepared to perfection. Breakfast is incomparable, the pastry-chef from Apulia deserves a special mention.
Staff is well-prepared, speak good English and go the extra mile to make things easy. On our way to Lipari Island (where we intended to stop before checking in at Therasia), we realised that our boat will call at Vulcano Harbour. We called the hotel and they picked up our luggage during the 5min interval while the ferry berthed. We could thus enjoy our Lipari stopover without unnecessary luggage. At the hotel, Mariangela was very hospitable and tried her best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Her recommendations were spot-on. However, the King (capital K) of the hotel is Pierpaolo, the omni-present Manager who treats all guests like family.
As to the Island of Vulcano, beware that there is little to do. The town is very primitive and services (such as taxis) are sparse. Restaurants (out of the Therasia) are OK-ish, the good ones are always full. We tried to rent a car to visit the far-flung Spiaggia del Asino and ended up driving this Citroen Mehari (out of production since 1988)… Driving around the island in this junk (which cost Eur100/day) felt like a scene from a Fantozzi movie… Ferries to and from the island tend to be in high demand so plan ahead, particularly on weekends.
If you feel like relaxing in a great—Leading—hotel in the Eolian Islands, Therasia is the place.

First and foremost this hotel is absolutely phenomenal. Its location is stunning, the food divine whether you choose to visit the Michelin star restaurant or not. While the hotel has no beach, it has sea swimming from a prepared rock outcrop with a swimming ladder and a beach is a short drive by the hotel bus (or a slightly longer walk) away. And I can confirm that unlike a previous guests review, melon was in plentiful supply (thanks for the laugh whomever you are).
We had a few hiccups with some organised trips but the hotel sorted it all out.
My one and only warning to would be guest is that the hotel is most certainly orientated to guests staying only a few days and many clearly visit for only one night to eat at the Michelin restaurant. As a result, everything at the hotel is extremely expensive. If like us you are making a holiday out of it, not just a restaurant trip, I'd highly recommend rapidly acquainting yourself with the local town. A 5 min trip in the hotels regularly run minibus. You can find a small supermarket where you can buy 12L of water for €2.50 (rather than €6 for 1L. As well as lots of lovely little restaurants that do great food at a great price. 2 courses and a glass of wine at the hotel can easily set you back €100 for two people every day, and ordering for deliver to your sunlouger an easy €40 a time. Which while fine for your day after/before your glitzy (and amazing) Michelin Star meal gets a bit heavy after 4 or 5 days. After 10-14 you might need a second job when you get home. I do feel at the very least water should be considerably less after 2 or 3 days, given in the 35 degree daily heat you'll be advised to knock back a good 3L a day at €18 per person. I get fancy water for the (again amazing) Michelin star meal but it seems a bit much while trying to prune on day 7 on a sunlounger. I have been to other such hotels that for bookings over a certain length offer a daily allowance to overcome such things.
BUT! Do not let this singular gripe deter you! Just be aware of it.
The setting, the hotel were amazing. The sky at night looks almost fake it's so perfect. The staff were extremely friendly and the food was divine.
Happily recommend.
