About the location
Ragusa (setting of the TV detective show Inspector Montalbano) is one of Sicily’s most photogenic towns, a jumble of baroque buildings sprawled across a hillside in the UNESCO-listed Val di Noto. It’s split into two parts; Ragusa Ibla is the older, more traditional area, while Ragusa Superiore has a more modern feel.
Ragusa Ibla is a warren of atmospheric lanes, which wind down the hillside and open out into sunny piazzas every so often. Look out for the Duomo di San Giorgio, one of the island’s grandest cathedrals, and the Giardino Ibleo, a leafy park with lovely valley views. Head up to Ragusa Superiore and you’ll find another cathedral, plus shops, cafes and photo-worthy views across Ragusa Ibla and the surrounding area.
Ragusa is an ideal base for exploring southern Sicily. Discover the equally beautiful towns of Noto and Modica, head to the beach for the day, or make a trip to stunning Syracuse.

l stayed in a garden room with an outside terrace and the situation of the room was wonderful- quiet, private and a perfect sun-trap. l`d wanted a quiet room and this was an unusual experience; it was possible to hear people in the corridor but, as soon as they entered the room, there was complete silence! l`m guessing that might be because the rooms are built into the rock and the result is a completely undisturbed sleep.
The room itself was very modern and had every convenience you`d expect. lt was immaculately clean and well-maintained. Personally, l`d have liked a comfortable chair to sit in when l was reading or watching tv in the evening; the only one available was a desk chair - not very relaxing!
Breakfast was simple, with delicious pastries and the best coffee l`ve tasted anywhere in ltaly. l`d have enjoyed some breakfast cereal, but there was fruit and yoghurt on offer.
The staff were lovely. Everybody was relaxed, pleasant and very attentive in a non-obtrusive way. Any request was quickly and efficiently fulfilled - a totally professional team. Thank you all very much.
When l return to Ragusa, l`ll stay here again without hesitation.

Fantastic experience. Ivan was very welcoming as were his staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Ivan glided seamlessly through the hotel speaking a range of languages. Remembering each guests' nationality and finding time to chat. I thought the hotel was exquisite and the breakfast plentiful with a view to take your breath away.

We booked this holiday In January on returning from Australia, before we knew anything of COVID. We had a great 3 week break in Sydney and the Gold Coast but longed to visit our favourite destination, Italy. Neither of us had been to Sicily but visit Italy on a regular basis.
Many times we considered cancelling (my husband being at risk) but eventually we made the decision to go.
We made the right decision.
Sicily was definitely worth the gamble. San Giorgio was the perfect choice. A stunning hotel in an outstanding location.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating, even bringing us an extra table when they realised we like to sit in our room at night with a glass of wine, taking in the beautiful views.
The location of the hotel couldn???t have been better, set in the old historical town and just a minute walk from an abundance of restaurants.
In terms of Covid, the staff wore masks at all times and the hotel was immaculate. We felt safe and had a wonderful time.
