- Enjoy spectacular views from Mount Etna
- Ascend to 1900m
- Chance to swim at the beautiful Alcantara Gorge
This full-day excursion is the perfect opportunity to enjoy one of Sicily’s most iconic landmarks: Mount Etna.
On your way to the volcano, you’ll stop off at Alcantara Gorge, a stunning and unspoilt lava-stone canyon carved by the Alcantara River. You’ll have 90 minutes of free time here; you can follow one of the walking trails at the top, or take a lift down to the bottom of the gorge, where you can have a paddle or even a swim.
Your next stop is Mount Etna, Europe’s biggest active volcano. As you ascend to a height of 1,900 metres, your guide will fill you in on the volcano’s geology and history. Once you arrive, you’ll be able to enjoy a spectacular outlook across Sicily and the Ionian Sea.
We say: “If you’re able, I’d definitely recommend going to 2,900 metres for the full Mount Etna experience. It’s chilly but worth it! And remember to take a hand towel so you can have a paddle at the gorge.” Melissa Chisholm, Italy Expert
