If you thought a set of stairs couldn’t possibly be of any interest, think again. The elegant Scala dei Turchi is like no staircase you’ve ever seen, climbed or photographed. The white cliff is located between Realmonte and Porto Empedocle, and features rock of soft limestone and bright white marl.
In bright sunlight, the effect is dazzling, so don’t forget your shades. But, in stark and beautiful contrast, the deep azure of the ocean which laps at the feet of the gleaming white rock acts as respite from the glare and, if you choose to sit and stare awhile, you will find yourself transported. The beaches themselves have facilities for the visitor, with two well-equipped establishments for bathing and dining.
You will marvel at the astonishing colour contrasts as you take a walk along this stretch of coast – yellow golds of the sands blend into the blues of the sea, which in turn melt onto the stark whites of the splendid rocks.
