About the location
Monopoli edges right up to the cliffs and coves south of Bari. Its eastern edge looks more like a fortress than a town, thanks to the cannon-topped walls and Adriatic-view castle. They‘ve been fighting back everyone from marauding pirates to the Spanish Armada since the 16th century.
Monopoli Cathedral is easily the tallest peak in the skyline, with a bell tower rocketing up above talc-white houses. In fact, all the churches are real characters – from the bell-shaped windows of Santa Maria della Zaffara Church to the baroque beauty of Santa Maria Amalfitana Church.
Charles V Castle (Castillo di Carlo V) keeps an eye on the old harbour. Fishermen still sit in their blue and red boats, repairing nets and sorting bait; their catch goes straight to the town’s top-notch seafood restaurants. Just along the prom (Lungomare), Martinelli Palace sits grandly by the water.
You can reward your explorations with a dip at Cala Porta Vecchia. This pint-sized beach combines soft, pale sand with city views.
Transfer time
Car hire is recommended for this hotel. Monopoli is 1 hour from Bari airport and 45 minutes from Brindisi airport. Simply call us once you’ve completed your booking and we will talk you through the options.

We stayed for 1 night in the lovely and beautiful B&B Il Melograno.
We got a warm welcome by Lucca who guided us to our spacious, comfortable and thoughtful decorated room.
The B&B had a lovely garden too.
We had an excellent stay and we really enjoyed the hospitality, helpful and smiling service.
At breakfast we were even more overwhelmed by the warm welcome, the nice homemade coffee in a beautiful diningroom of the B&B.
Grazie mille!

Dreadful. Horrible, surly staff. Simply put, it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
It is pretty and clean. That I cannot deny however the negatives so far outweigh these two positive comments, I cannot give anything other than one star.
We were also lied to about a number of things. We asked to deal with management who showed us only contempt. This later continued when we left and formalised our complaints.
Stopped in many nicer and friendlier hotels. Everything here is a chore too, ordering a drink, food, it is just not relaxing. Pompous in the extreme.
We left, and went to another 5* near Cisternino and that was fantastic, polar opposites!

Normally we would always book a hotel by the sea but on this occasion our amazing travel agent (@360privatetravel) showed us this inland oasis that has a sister hotel on the sea front that you can use the beach as well as the restaurant and so we decided to give it a try and it makes a nice change to be away from the noise of the sea. We have a deluxe room which is rustic in style but ample in size with all the amenities you could need. The hotel is vast (but only the function rooms) and yet it still feels very boutique with some great food, beautiful pool and a handsome breakfast buffet (there is also a breakfast menu available for eggs, pancakes & so on) with fresh juices, amazing coffee all within the relaxing settings of the pool side tables. They also have a very well stocked bar and plenty of places to sit and chill outdoors to enjoy the warm atmosphere.

Lovely hotel a couple of miles outside Monopoli, which itself is a picturesque town with plenty of restaurants and bars.
Il Melograno is a masseria, so very characterful and rustic, rather than modern and sleek. However, that is part of its charm.
We found the staff to be extremely helpful and polite and always ready to help with trips and recommendations.
The pool is large and very welcome in the heat, though there was sometimes a shortage of sunbeds at certain times of the day.
Breakfast was plentiful and there was an option to have cooked eggs, omelettes etc as well as the cold buffet. Food in the restaurant was of a good quality and well presented. It was also lovely to be able to dine outside in the evenings.
Lovely spa in the grounds, together with an additional heated pool.
There is a daily shuttle bus which goes to the sister hotel on the beach. There is a charge for use of sunbeds/towels, but the private beach itself is a great size and the sunbeds well spread out (unlike a lot of other beach clubs!). There is also a bar serving drinks/coffees and snacks.
Taxis from the hotel into the town are very expensive and it would be great if the hotel could perhaps provide a shuttle bus in the evenings.
