Botanic Gardens at Villa Taranto

The Botanic Gardens at Villa Taranto are located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in Pallanza. They were established between 1930 and 1940 by Scotsman Neil McEacharn, who made large changes to the landscape including the addition of several impressive water features like fountains and waterfalls.

The gardens were opened to the public in 1952 and, following his death, were left to the state to ensure they would remain open for all. They now house over 20,000 varieties of plants and the gardens, include water lilies spanning almost two metres, a Dahlia maze and a beautiful lotus pond. Visitors can also see the final resting place of Neil Mceacharn in his Mausoleum.
