About the location
Holidays in Santa Margherita, situated on the Gulf of Tigullio between
Rapallo and
Portofino, offer an enticing combination of that glorious style which Italians bring to their seaside resorts. An unrivalled natural environment meets thought provoking cultural attractions and great food and entertainment.
It’s a lovely resort for couples, full of life, full of opportunity but also with space and time to take it easy, to enjoy each other’s company and to enjoy the Riviera experience. The beaches, where you can hire deckchairs, sunbeds and umbrellas, are a mix of public and private and primarily pebble with just a few sandy ones. But move closer to Portofino, around five kilometres away, and you’ll discover more sandy beaches. A great example is the beautiful Paraggi Beach, which is surrounded by all the bars and restaurants you will ever need.
If pebbles or sand between your toes are not for you, there are some really nice gardens and open spaces to enjoy on your holidays in Santa Margherita.

Have stayed at this hotel 4 or 5 times as have other members of the family. I reviewed it in 2017 under the title "seaside luxury" Our latest stay was for 4 nights in a room with a sea view. The room was super-comfortable, with a small terrace. It had effective air conditioning, a fridge and a good bathroom.
The breakfast was impeccable and the facilities and service including pool and a well stocked poolside bar left nothing to be desired.
Basically it is still an excellent hotel. COVID means that more of the guests are Italian, and that there are precautions to be taken, but these are handled without spoiling one's enjoyment.
Guests' cars are now conveniently accomodated in the nearby new but unobtrusive municipal car park,
We, and other members of the family, have enjoyed our time at the hotel very much.

This is a truly grand hotel in every way, the setting, the design, the food, the service, the gardens, and the view. We booked a suite and loved it. The hotel is maintained to perfection with everything in superb condition. The breakfast whether inside or on the terrace is wonderful with great service. The pool is magnificent. The sea is steps away. The live piano music at night in the bar area and the ambience is so inviting. We really could not love this place more. Such a special building too in this lovely village of Santa Margarita. For our first night we walked to Bistro Altro Eden 4 minute walk away based on hotel recommendation. Simple setting on the lovely marina but the food is INCREDIBLE. The pasta is so good we returned a second time before we left because we had to have it again. But even on one rainy night we ordered room service and that was also fantastic. Fully recommend this beautiful hotel.

From the moment you arrive at this beautiful hotel you are well looked after. All the staff tried their best to make you feel relaxed in these times of Covid. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Really impressed with the breakfast, which is served in a lovely way, and was possibly better than a buffet. Dinner on the terrace was very enjoyable. Beautiful gardens with a lovely swimming pool. Will definitely return.

We stayed here at the tail end of August/beginning of September. The Hotel has a fantastic pool, a great beach club and largely great staff. A special 'shout out' to the chamber maids who happily co- ordinated the movements of our dog with when they could clean our room.
Breakfast is included and is broad in it's contents.
Unfortunately the major draw back of staying at this hotel during the height of the season is the 'policy' with regards to the beach club across the road that the hotel owns and advertises as a facility of the Hotel; so one would assume can be used by guests. Think again, during the season; June until the end of September more than 90% of the beds at the beach club are rented out to non residents for 4000 euros each. What this equates to is that upon arrival at the hotel you, as a guest may, or most likely not, will not be able to secure a bed/beds at the beach club. When we stayed there were 26 pairs of beds to facilitate the needs of the entire hotel. They say that beds are allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis but do not make it clear that from the outset most of the beds have already been reserved by non-residents.
If the owners actually prioritised the needs of paying guests above collecting income from people who have holiday homes in the area this hotel would be fantastic. As an aside spending 3/4 days at the hotel costs more than the 4000 euros that securing a bed for the season generate from non-residents!
I have to add that the Imperial Palace, Hotel Metropole etc do not operate this policy and all guests are guaranteed beds at their beach clubs.
