Set among 10 acres of gardens and orchards just outside Sorrento, Villa Don Camillo is an ideal boutique hotel retreat.
The villa is family run and features just seven bedrooms, so it’s got the feel of staying with friends or family – you can ask the chef for a cooking lesson in the kitchen or get the owners to show you how to make limoncello with lemons from the garden.
Housed inside a 17th-century aristocratic villa, each room at the Villa Don Camillo is individually styled, with boutique-style furnishings and a few extra touches from us.
Outside, the orchards wrap around a decked swimming pool, while shaded sofas are the perfect places to curl up with book and a glass of local wine. There’s also an al fresco dining area for supper, which can be decorated for birthdays, special occasions or wedding receptions.
In terms of the location, you’re in Sant’Agnello, a quiet suburb of Sorrento that offers a more authentic Italian experience – neighbourhood trattorias are filled with Sorrentine families and food markets bustle with locals picking up fresh ingredients for dinner.
A stroll into the centre of Sorrento takes around 45 minutes, although there’s also a complimentary shuttle bus (or you can catch a local train, which will take you five minutes).
“As soon as I walked in, the smell of the lemon trees that grow in the garden hit me, and I knew I was entering a totally different property from all the ones I’ve seen before. The owners were so warm and welcoming – it felt just like being at home with family.” Lisian Gianni, Italy Expert
