Hillside location facing out over the Bay of Naples
- A stone’s throw from the beating heart of Sorrento
- Take a dip in the cascading swimming pool
- Dine with beautiful views on the hotel terrace
Perched on the side of a cliff and nestled into a rockface, Grand Hotel Capodimonte fuses so seamlessly with its surroundings we wouldn’t be surprised if you missed it the first time around! Put simply, this prestigious 4-star hotel is an architectural masterpiece. Built in the traditional Mediterranean style, the modern hotel is light, airy and decorated in an elegant classic-contemporary style.
Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a great escape for couples or families with older children. There are many quiet little corners to hide away in, as well as superb open spaces both in the lounges and on the terraces. As you can expect, the hotel enjoys gorgeous views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, which are perhaps some of the best in Sorrento. But it is surely the hotel’s five cascading swimming pools that is its crowning glory. The pools all face that magnificent view, so you can cool off from the summer heat while admiring the sheer beauty before your eyes.
Despite its hidden, hillside location, Grand Hotel Capodimonte is less than 15-minutes’ walk away from Sorrento centro. The town is world-famous for ceramics so be sure to stroll the pretty streets looking for bargains. Food and wine plays a huge part in the way of life here and the little town has many wonderful options suitable for every taste and budget! The port, with direct links to the Amalfi coast and Capri is only 30 minutes away by foot.
The hotel has 184 rooms (official rating 4-star). Child prices apply to ages 2-12 years. Minimum stay 3 nights.

About the location
Home to pedestrian streets lined with family-run gelaterias, souvenir shops selling wonderful ceramics and wonderful trattorias, Sorrento is a charming destination for all. After filling your Instagram feed with perfect pictures of Sorrento old town and pretty pastel houses tumbling into the sea, why not drink in a bit of culture? In just a short walk you’ll be at all the town’s sights, including the Museo Correale di Terranova, Sorrento’s art museum where you can see grand works from the 15-19th centuries.
Sorrento is built onto the side of a rocky mountain, which is covered in vines and olive and lemon groves. But if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town - it can get very busy during July and August - why not head up into the hills? Believe us, it’s worth the effort as spectacular views are guaranteed! For travellers who want to enjoy more urban charms, Naples and Pompeii are both about an hour’s drive or train ride away.
Sorrento excels in the Italian art of people watching, and time spent settled into a comfy chair, gazing at both the view and the passers by is time well spent. Order yourself a limoncello, grab yourself a prime spot on the Piazza Tasso and simply watch the world go by.

Beautiful authentic Italian hotel situated on the edge of Sorrentos restaurant and shopping centre. It is set up high over looking the bay of Naples. From the pools you are able to look out on the magnificent mount Versuvius, it was a stunning sight. Rooms were large, clean and well appointed. There are 3 pools with plenty of beds, (we never once couldn???t find one), I think where it was a place to explore as well, there was a good rotation of people out for the day so it worked beautifully. There are two restaurants, the pool restaurant serve very good lunch and in the evening a very nice a la carte menu in both restaurants. Both have the view over the bay. Breakfast had a good selection and a chef cooking fresh omelettes and scrambled eggs. We ate in both once each for evening and more at the pool for lunch. It???s a 5 minute walk to the main square down the road which has a plethora of cafes, restaurants and very good shopping. This hotel is one of the nicest I???ve stayed in, I feel it ticked all the boxes, I highly recommend.
Restaurant recommendations
Raki - ice cream shop - value for money excellent ice cream
Zi ???Ntonio - stunning food beautiful authentic restaurant
Bar Veneruso - don???t be fooled by the cafe type appearance, the food is very good

My wife and I have just returned from another two weeks stay at the wonderful Grand Hotel Capodimonte, and are already making plans to return in 2026.
Other than Covid, this is our 13th consecutive year, our first visit being, when got married. We are fortunate and travel to Italy two or three times a year, but nowhere is quite as special the 'Capo'. I think over a decade of stays probably says enough, although I could go on about the patient, helpful, friendly staff, the amazing food, served in the open restaurent with its clear, elevated, panoramic views over the bay of Naples. Or the super easy walk into the town with great shopping, but I won't, as it has all that and more. The Grand Hotel Capodimonte gets a five star rating (and then some ! ) from us.

Ok so first things first ??? if your a family or 4 get ready to get 2 rooms.. you can only fit 3 max in a room and I did just get the simple non sea view because of that. They hotel was very accommodating as to getting us on the same level and next to each as my children are 13. That being said. Room so pretty modern yet the feel of Sorrento Italy tile picture. Plenty of hot water and AC!!!!!
The Staff was so accommodating. The pools beautiful the atmosphere was tranquil and calm with amazing views of the coast. The food we ate at at the hotel was a bit fancy but again just so beautiful. Sunset a mist. Parking a breeze.
The hotel is a 3 minute walk to all shops and food make sure to make a left on one of the streets for all the other shops and restaurants!!
Coming back here would be no issue
