Hillside location facing out over the Bay of Naples
- A stone’s throw from the beating heart of Sorrento
- Take a dip in the cascading swimming pool
- Dine with beautiful views on the hotel terrace
Perched on the side of a cliff and nestled into a rockface, Grand Hotel Capodimonte fuses so seamlessly with its surroundings we wouldn’t be surprised if you missed it the first time around! Put simply, this prestigious 4-star hotel is an architectural masterpiece. Built in the traditional Mediterranean style, the modern hotel is light, airy and decorated in an elegant classic-contemporary style.
Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a great escape for couples or families with older children. There are many quiet little corners to hide away in, as well as superb open spaces both in the lounges and on the terraces. As you can expect, the hotel enjoys gorgeous views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, which are perhaps some of the best in Sorrento. But it is surely the hotel’s five cascading swimming pools that is its crowning glory. The pools all face that magnificent view, so you can cool off from the summer heat while admiring the sheer beauty before your eyes.
Despite its hidden, hillside location, Grand Hotel Capodimonte is less than 15-minutes’ walk away from Sorrento centro. The town is world-famous for ceramics so be sure to stroll the pretty streets looking for bargains. Food and wine plays a huge part in the way of life here and the little town has many wonderful options suitable for every taste and budget! The port, with direct links to the Amalfi coast and Capri is only 30 minutes away by foot.
The hotel has 184 rooms (official rating 4-star). Child prices apply to ages 2-12 years. Minimum stay 3 nights.

About the location
Home to pedestrian streets lined with family-run gelaterias, souvenir shops selling wonderful ceramics and wonderful trattorias, Sorrento is a charming destination for all. After filling your Instagram feed with perfect pictures of Sorrento old town and pretty pastel houses tumbling into the sea, why not drink in a bit of culture? In just a short walk you’ll be at all the town’s sights, including the Museo Correale di Terranova, Sorrento’s art museum where you can see grand works from the 15-19th centuries.
Sorrento is built onto the side of a rocky mountain, which is covered in vines and olive and lemon groves. But if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town - it can get very busy during July and August - why not head up into the hills? Believe us, it’s worth the effort as spectacular views are guaranteed! For travellers who want to enjoy more urban charms, Naples and Pompeii are both about an hour’s drive or train ride away.
Sorrento excels in the Italian art of people watching, and time spent settled into a comfy chair, gazing at both the view and the passers by is time well spent. Order yourself a limoncello, grab yourself a prime spot on the Piazza Tasso and simply watch the world go by.

No matter what other reviews you read in searching for a hotel in Sorrento, you must know that none of them can even begin to compare to the entire experience you???ll have when you book at Capodimonte.
I will easily reach the character limit on this review so I???ll do my best to be concise without omitting too much.
Here???s the only Sorrento hotel review you???ll ever need:
Put simply, Capodimonte feels less like you???re staying in a hotel and more like you???re at your vacation home.
Upon arrival you???ll likely be greeted atop the gorgeous driveway by the tirelessly hard working and helpful Tonino. He???ll first help with your bags, but quickly you???ll realize he is your go-to for anything and everything you could need in and around Sorrento. Need a recommendation for a non-touristy beach? Ask Tonino. Unsure how to get to one of the places on your Sorrento checklist? Tonino will show you the way. Exhausted from the heat when visiting in the summer? Ask Tonino where you can find the best spot for a refreshing Spritz. He???s the best way to begin your Capodimonte stay, and he???ll give you the best send-off when you begrudgingly have to leave.
Now that you???ve made it inside:
Close your eyes and think of the all time greatest hotel check in experience you???ve ever had. Now forget about it, because you???ll never feel more welcomed and valued as a guest than you will when you meet the indescribably incredible front desk staff at Capodimonte.
Whether you???re greeted by Roberta, Carlo, Mara, Manuela, Mariana, Salvatore, or anybody else, you can be certain they???ll make you feel like you???re already a familiar face. They will move mountains to help accommodate your needs, whether an early check in, a change in your reservation, a dinner reservation, a taxi at a moments notice, and dozens and dozens of other ways they will deliver on whatever opportunity arises to improve the experience of you as their guest. You can???t help but smile back at them every time you walk through the lobby, because you know their smiles are genuine and they take extremely seriously their role in providing you with the most seamless and enjoyable experience you can possibly have.
In an effort to avoid running out of characters I can write, I can???t give nearly enough praise to the numerous other staff members that impact and improve every aspect of your stay. Just to mention a few others, I must give thanks to folks like Luigi, Mario, Michele, Marco and so many others that I swear must work 18 hour days because they are always at ready for anything you may need, whenever and wherever you are at this incomparable property.
Speaking of the property???
Mark my words - You couldn???t dream up a more ideal and picturesque hotel than you will actually experience in reality when you stay at Capodimonte.
Some hotels boast a waterfront location. Others pride themselves on their proximity to Piazza Tasso where all the action is happening. But none of them can claim to encapsulate all of the above and so much more as Capodimonte can offer you.
Enjoy being able to relax in a pool while you travel? Surely then you???ll love having access to FIVE infinity pools with more than enough lounge chairs for everyone, all of which overlook the most beautiful setting you???ll ever find from a hotel pool? You won???t be able to stop yourself from grabbing your phone and taking pictures from this pool because otherwise there???s no way your friends will believe you when you describe it to them.
I could write for several more hours about how uniquely perfect of a hotel that is Capodimonte.
Instead, I???ll leave you with just this one last note:
My wife and I just concluded our fourth stay at Capodimonte. It is where we were married. It is where we will return each year and that is a non-negotiable for us.
And no matter how many times we visit and how many nights we???ve stayed in one of their perfect rooms, I still every single day arise each morning at the crack of dawn, without any alarm, and sit out on the balcony watching the sun rise in awe of how perfect the views and blessed we are to have found Hotel Capodimonte.
You???ll never regret booking your stay at Capodimonte.

Beautiful authentic Italian hotel situated on the edge of Sorrentos restaurant and shopping centre. It is set up high over looking the bay of Naples. From the pools you are able to look out on the magnificent mount Versuvius, it was a stunning sight. Rooms were large, clean and well appointed. There are 3 pools with plenty of beds, (we never once couldn???t find one), I think where it was a place to explore as well, there was a good rotation of people out for the day so it worked beautifully. There are two restaurants, the pool restaurant serve very good lunch and in the evening a very nice a la carte menu in both restaurants. Both have the view over the bay. Breakfast had a good selection and a chef cooking fresh omelettes and scrambled eggs. We ate in both once each for evening and more at the pool for lunch. It???s a 5 minute walk to the main square down the road which has a plethora of cafes, restaurants and very good shopping. This hotel is one of the nicest I???ve stayed in, I feel it ticked all the boxes, I highly recommend.
Restaurant recommendations
Raki - ice cream shop - value for money excellent ice cream
Zi ???Ntonio - stunning food beautiful authentic restaurant
Bar Veneruso - don???t be fooled by the cafe type appearance, the food is very good
