Perched on the side of a cliff and nestled into a rockface, Grand Hotel Capodimonte fuses so seamlessly with its surroundings we wouldn’t be surprised if you missed it the first time around! Put simply, this prestigious 4-star hotel is an architectural masterpiece. Built in the traditional Mediterranean style, the modern hotel is light, airy and decorated in an elegant classic-contemporary style.
Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a great escape for couples or families with older children. There are many quiet little corners to hide away in, as well as superb open spaces both in the lounges and on the terraces. As you can expect, the hotel enjoys gorgeous views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, which are perhaps some of the best in Sorrento. But it is surely the hotel’s five cascading swimming pools that is its crowning glory. The pools all face that magnificent view, so you can cool off from the summer heat while admiring the sheer beauty before your eyes.
Despite its hidden, hillside location, Grand Hotel Capodimonte is less than 15-minutes’ walk away from Sorrento centro. The town is world-famous for ceramics so be sure to stroll the pretty streets looking for bargains. Food and wine plays a huge part in the way of life here and the little town has many wonderful options suitable for every taste and budget! The port, with direct links to the Amalfi coast and Capri is only 30 minutes away by foot.

About the location
Home to pedestrian streets lined with family-run gelaterias, souvenir shops selling wonderful ceramics and wonderful trattorias, Sorrento is a charming destination for all. After filling your Instagram feed with perfect pictures of Sorrento old town and pretty pastel houses tumbling into the sea, why not drink in a bit of culture? In just a short walk you’ll be at all the town’s sights, including the Museo Correale di Terranova, Sorrento’s art museum where you can see grand works from the 15-19th centuries.
Sorrento is built onto the side of a rocky mountain, which is covered in vines and olive and lemon groves. But if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town - it can get very busy during July and August - why not head up into the hills? Believe us, it’s worth the effort as spectacular views are guaranteed! For travellers who want to enjoy more urban charms, Naples and Pompeii are both about an hour’s drive or train ride away.
Sorrento excels in the Italian art of people watching, and time spent settled into a comfy chair, gazing at both the view and the passers by is time well spent. Order yourself a limoncello, grab yourself a prime spot on the Piazza Tasso and simply watch the world go by.

Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a wonderful place to relax in the grounds, and the perfect base to explore the Amalfi coast from. Every day we enjoyed great views from the breakfast room, or dining room in the evening, across the bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius. The food was a consistently delicious, and a very high standard.
We also enjoyed lunch twice in the hotel's Bougainvillea Terrace bisto, which must be one of the Sorrento's best kept secret, secluded restaurants, with views looking out to sea across the town's rooftops.
Our room was beautiful. Obviously recently redecorated in a contemporary Italian style, with a vibrant mediterranean colours scheme and situated at the back of the hotel looking out to the garden. So nice and quite in the mornings. Housekeeping was always prompt and very thorough, turning the room round to a very high standard.
The hotel was also full of fresh Orchid displays, so the reception and dining room looked stunning at all times of day.
From Grand Hotel Capodimonte it's a short, easy 10 minute walk into the main town, which was perfect for exploring Sorrento's history, cafes and shops. Also with the help of the reception staff we were able to book 3 day trips to explore Capri, the Amalfi Coastline and Pompeii.
The hotel staff, both in the restaurants, reception and housekeeping, were all very helpful and professional. Thanks to all of them for making our stay so lovely, a clear 10/10 experience. We look forward to coming back to the hotel again next year to explore more of the Amalfi coastline.
Grazie mille!

We just finished an eight-day stay at GHC. We were in a Premire Room. We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend it to others.
1. The hotel is located at the southern end of town, about one kilometer up a slightly sloping hill.?? You can be in the center square of Sorrento in 15 minutes.
2.?? The Premier Rooms and those of a higher level come with a patio, table, and chairs that overlook the five cascading pools and have a beautiful view of the city and the coast.
3. There are two main restaurants in the hotel for dinner.?? Bellevue is outside and is only available by reservation.?? It is covered by a?? pergola and has a view of the city and Gulf of Naples.?? Le Ginestre is inside and has a 180??? view through huge windows. Breakfast is held in a third space, Le Querce.?? It is a covered patio, open in front with a gorgeous view of the town and water.
Lunch at GHC can be found on a terrace?? overlooking the pools in the Grill Restaurant Bougainvillea.?? It is directly next to the Apertif Bar L'Agrumento.
We enjoyed the breakfasts (open from 7-10 a.m.) each day.?? There are a number of different buffet stations available to get a continental breakfast.?? There is also an omelet and egg station with meat, potatoes, tomatoes, and beans.?? Bread table in the middle, with a toaster available along the side.?? Waiters will get you hot beverages.
We did try lunch one day on the terrace.?? It was not very good. They messed up pizza (in Italy) and a vegetable/mussle soup. We just wanted to stay in one day while at the pool.?? Maybe other items are better. The service was excellent.
We had dinner at Le Ginestre the first night when we arrived late.?? The menu was limited, but we tried a Gamberetti and a Ravioli for Primi and the Spigola alla Erbe Di Campo (sea bass) for Secondi.?? They were cooked perfectly. Service is excellent.
4. There are a lot of spaces to relax around the hotel.?? On the main level, there is a huge lounge off of the lobby.?? The Olive Trees Bar is inside the room and opens as the terrace bar is closing down, around 17:00.?? We loved this space and relaxed here in between our trips to town and other places, as well as for a Limoncello at the end of the night.?? We did round two of Limoncello on our bedroom terrace. Apparently, we have a Limoncello problem.
There is a smaller TV lounge off the other side of the lobby, with a small station to access the internet and a laser printer.
A few steps down from the lobby below the TV lounge is the entrance to an enormous , multi-level deck with couches, chairs, tables, and umbrellas.?? There are places to be social or nooks and crannies for more privacy.?? The deck also has more gorgeous views of the city and water. If you're sensing every place at GHC has a great view, you would be right.?? Only a few rooms on lower levels do not have views).
5. The Pools.?? There are five of them, as advertised.?? They are beautiful and there are chairs everywhere to get your tan on.?? Bar service is available and very efficient.?? The water is NOT heated. We were here in early May, and it was cold. Better in the afternoon, but not much (of course, we are from Texas USA, so we are spoiled with hotter water in the Gulf of whatever it is being called these days).??
6.?? Parking is available on site just across the street.?? We did not have a car.??
The hotel is in excellent condition all around.?? It is well-appointed in every space, and it seems as if they are constantly cleaning.?? Very helpful front desk staff.?? They can arrange anything for you.?? We can't wait for our next trip to Sorrento. It is a fun town to visit and is also convenient as a jumping off spot for Amalfi Coast destinations.

This hotel is located just outside of the main part of Sorrento. It is about a 200 metre walk to get to where the town starts. So, actually quite a good location because it provides the views along with a nice walk to build the appetite and then to walk off the meal. It is a beautiful layout and has various areas that you can enjoy a drink either indoor or outdoor. The grounds are also beautiful including the many layered pool with landscaping all around.
We had an issue with our room but it was resolved satisfactorily by Emanuela and Salvatore. Thank you.
At this time of the year, the AC is not available so they provided a fan we could use in the room. The bathroom had good amenities. The bed was very good. Our only complaint is they did not provide water which I think is essential for a hotel to do.
The breakfast area is beautiful but the selection is not that big. Service is very good.
Probably could have reviewed it as 4.5 stars but the lack of water and small breakfast selection brought it down a bit. I can see myself back at this place. If you have mobility issues it may be a problem because of the location and the various levels.

We Stayed at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte for 3 nights from the 30th April with our friends and from the moment we was dropped off we knew we would love it and we was so not disappointed! We only had a basic room but it was lovely c/w a completely bottle of fizz as it was my wife???s 60th birthday which was a nice touch! Breakfast was lovely with plenty choice and the staff were smart polite and very organised! The Italian way it seems. Special mention to the front desk for sorting out a last minute taxi when ours failed to turn up.The hotel is beautiful and very grand with plenty of space.
Last but not least the sea views from the terrace.. just wow!
Will definitely be back and hopefully next time a sea view room..

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Capodimonte. The location is perfect???just a short walk from the center of Sorrento, yet tucked away enough to offer peace and incredible panoramic views of the Bay of Naples. The multi-level terraces and pools are absolutely stunning, and the sunsets from the hotel are unforgettable.
We stayed in a suite, which was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. Our 14-year-old slept on a large sofa bed in the living area???it was a bit firm, but fine for a short stay. One of the highlights of our visit was how incredibly kind and accommodating the staff were. They went out of their way to change our room to one with fewer steps to make things easier for our elderly grandmother. It made a real difference, and we were so grateful for their thoughtfulness and support.
The whole team???from reception to housekeeping to restaurant staff???were warm, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Breakfast offered a great variety, with fresh pastries, fruit, and local specialties to enjoy on the terrace of our room watching the breathtaking view .
The hotel combines classic Italian charm with modern comfort. It???s an ideal place to relax after exploring the Amalfi Coast. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Sorrento.
