- A stone’s throw from the beating heart of Sorrento
- Take a dip in the cascading swimming pool
- Dine with beautiful views on the hotel terrace
Perched on the side of a cliff and nestled into a rockface, Grand Hotel Capodimonte fuses so seamlessly with its surroundings we wouldn’t be surprised if you missed it the first time around! Put simply, this prestigious 4-star hotel is an architectural masterpiece. Built in the traditional Mediterranean style, the modern hotel is light, airy and decorated in an elegant classic-contemporary style.
Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a great escape for couples or families with older children. There are many quiet little corners to hide away in, as well as superb open spaces both in the lounges and on the terraces. As you can expect, the hotel enjoys gorgeous views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, which are perhaps some of the best in Sorrento. But it is surely the hotel’s five cascading swimming pools that is its crowning glory. The pools all face that magnificent view, so you can cool off from the summer heat while admiring the sheer beauty before your eyes.
Despite its hidden, hillside location, Grand Hotel Capodimonte is less than 15-minutes’ walk away from Sorrento centro. The town is world-famous for ceramics so be sure to stroll the pretty streets looking for bargains. Food and wine plays a huge part in the way of life here and the little town has many wonderful options suitable for every taste and budget! The port, with direct links to the Amalfi coast and Capri is only 30 minutes away by foot.
The hotel has 184 rooms (official rating 4-star). Child prices apply to ages 2-12 years. Minimum stay 3 nights.

About the location
Home to pedestrian streets lined with family-run gelaterias, souvenir shops selling wonderful ceramics and wonderful trattorias, Sorrento is a charming destination for all. After filling your Instagram feed with perfect pictures of Sorrento old town and pretty pastel houses tumbling into the sea, why not drink in a bit of culture? In just a short walk you’ll be at all the town’s sights, including the Museo Correale di Terranova, Sorrento’s art museum where you can see grand works from the 15-19th centuries.
Sorrento is built onto the side of a rocky mountain, which is covered in vines and olive and lemon groves. But if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town - it can get very busy during July and August - why not head up into the hills? Believe us, it’s worth the effort as spectacular views are guaranteed! For travellers who want to enjoy more urban charms, Naples and Pompeii are both about an hour’s drive or train ride away.
Sorrento excels in the Italian art of people watching, and time spent settled into a comfy chair, gazing at both the view and the passers by is time well spent. Order yourself a limoncello, grab yourself a prime spot on the Piazza Tasso and simply watch the world go by.

I stayed at Capodimonte for 5 nights with my husband for our honeymoon this past week.
Lets start with the positives:
-The pool was fabulous. It was the perfect temperature, plenty of chairs, and you can't beat the view. We also enjoyed one of the best pizzas we had our entire trip at the pool restaurant.
-Walkability was 5/5. It was an easy 3 minute walk into town where all the shops and restaurants are.
-The front desk staff was always nice. They helped us call taxis several times and recommended beach clubs and restaurants to me and my husband
Now for the negatives:
-The breakfast was not good. It was very sad looking. The pastries were bland and the selection for everything was so small. There was an "omlette" station but it was really just mediocre scrambled eggs with a few options for mix ins. No other hot foods. Our hotel in Venice had a huge spread of gorgeous pastries, a waffle and pancake bar, 5 different kinds of croissants alone, sausage, bacon, hash browns, yogurt, fruit, and an endless selection of meats and cheeses. This felt like a free breakfast you would get in a motel in the US.
-The AC in the room was one of the biggest negatives and probably why we won't stay here again. Unlike the hotels our friends stayed at the same week in Sorrento, Capodimonte put a limit on the AC in the room and you could not turn it down past 23 degrees which is about 74 degrees. Our friend's hotels didn't do this and we often went to their rooms for relief in their cooler rooms. When it is 90 degrees outside, and your room is almost 75 degrees, it doesn't give you any relief. My husband and I couldn't blow dry our hair without sweating, and woke up almost every night hot, and had to keep the blinds down to our gorgeous view to keep the room cool. When we tried to complain we were given a fan to use in our room. I have never been given a giant fan before in any luxury hotel this expensive and it decreased the experience of our entire stay. If there is a heat wave across Europe, you should be able to accommodate the comfort of your guests.
-You need a reservation for the gym. My husband likes to work out every day and this was a huge inconvenience, especially since the morning slots are the first to go and were already booked when we arrived to check in.
Overall a good stay, but we will try a different hotel our next time in Sorrento.

This is a beautiful hotel, with 2-3 restaurants and a great seating area for drinks before dinner (with an incredible view of Sorrento). The restaurant by the pools had one of the best pizzas I had while in Italy!
The best part of this hotel is that it???s an easy (no hills) walk into downtown Sorrento. The second best part? The pools! There???s plenty of seating by the pools and they are beautiful all with great views and plenty of sunlight. The views from the rooms is picturesque. The hotel staff are kind and courteous and happily arranged taxi???s for us when we needed to go further than the short walk into town.
Drawbacks:
- Rooms are outdated (this might be expected with the hotel style). There???s no carpet so they are also very loud to outside noise in hallways, etc
- Gym is small and had to be reserved ahead of time
- THE AC. The lowest that it would go is 23 C (about 74 F). It was almost 90 degrees F in Sorrento the week we were there with 80% humidity. This just simply wasn???t cold enough to sleep comfortably. We asked the hotel reception multiple times to adjust our AC and they kept saying they were but it wouldn???t go any lower. We talked with other people in Sorrento staying at other hotels and they all said the AC went down to 18 or 19 C. This alone would cause us to not come back if we are traveling in summertime
