Spend half a day exploring and learning all about Herculaneum, the second city to be destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD (the first being Pompeii). Amble around the ruins with a knowledgeable guide, as they tell you all the stories and facts about the town, once a summer resort for wealthy Romans. During your visit you will see unspoiled mosaic-tiled floors and frescoed villas. Most are in remarkable condition – the site was buried in lava (rather than ash, like Pompeii), leading the city to be incredibly well preserved. Thanks to Herculaneum’s small size, you can take in all the sights in a couple of hours, so you’ll be back in Sorrento in time for a late lunch.
We say: “There is no better way to explore Herculaneum than with a guide by your side. You’ll be provided with a headset to listen on, so you won’t need to worry about not being able to hear properly.” Zoe Turner, Product Assistant
