- Lovingly restored country house hotel overlooking the ancient Greek temples of Paestum
- Restful retreat with charming gardens and covered patio
- Ancient Greek archaeological site and museum closeby
Il Granaio dei Casabella is located just across from the former gates of the ancient city of Paestum. A former farm building, il Granaio dei Casabella has been transformed into a delightful country hotel, while retaining much of its original charm.
Surrounded by a typically Mediterranenan and charming garden, with olive trees, oleanders, fruit trees and acacias, you can expect a relaxing, peaceful stay at il Granaio dei Casabella that is full of traditional character.
Il Granaio dei Casabella is wonderfully homely and will take you back in time. Spend your time relaxing in the hotel’s welcoming lounge and various living rooms where you can socialise with friends or curl up with a book. Il Granaio dei Casabella also boasts an inviting outdoor terrace with generations-old agricultural tools adorning the walls.
Rest your head in one of the hotel’s 14 rooms, which include both superior and family categories, and are spread across the property’s first and second floors.
All of the rooms are air-conditioned and heated, and feature spacious en suite bathrooms with showers, a TV, telephone and hairdryer. They offer wonderful views of either the garden or ancient Paestum. Complimentary WIFI is available throughout the property.
As you would expect from a holiday in Cilento, breakfast is homemade cakes, jams and biscuits, as well as cheeses, cold meats and eggs that have all been sourced seasonally and locally.

About the location
Paestum is an ancient town located on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea near the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy. The nearest city to Paestum is Salerno, situated approximately 24 miles away.
Paestum was founded around the early 7th century and named after the God of Water, Poseidon (Neptune), and offers an insight into the anthropology and mythology of ancient Greece.
The entire town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, due to the fact Paestum is brimming with archaeological and historical sites from ancient Greece, including its three iconic temples, and a wonderfully-preserved amphitheatre.
As well as the town’s dig sites, an archaeological museum allows you to unearth many ancient Greek relics during your holiday in Paestum, including vases and statues.
Located across from the ‘Porta Aurea’, one of Paestum’s former city gates, lies il Granaio dei Casabella, a former farm that has been transformed into a calm country hotel with just 14 rooms, which makes for a welcoming retreat after a long day immersing yourself in this historic town.

We stayed 2 nights at this charming hotel, well-located for touring the ancient ruins of Paestum, a short walk away to the entrance and museum. The hotel is a former barn turned into a lovely hotel, filled with interesting antiques from its past. The staff were outstanding and extremely helpful in making suggestions for local activities. Breakfast was a huge buffet with coffee made for us individually. Excellent!
Our room was spacious, with a view of the the ruins. I had been expecting to see the temples well-lit from my window, but do know that they are are some distance away, it???s not as if you???re seeing it close up.
We loved touring the ruins of Paestum and highly recommend seeing the museum as well. We also had a fantastic lunch at Barlotti Buffalo farm, recommended by the lovely staff at the hotel), and though we didn???t do a paid tour, we were allowed to walk around and look at the animals closeup.
It was clearly offseason here in mid-October, as the hotel was practically empty when we arrived, which felt a bit odd at first. reason for the 4*
We visited in mid-October, so out of high season, and it was pretty empty when we arrived, so it felt a bit odd. Fortunately, the lovely staff made us feel very welcome and, later, a few more people arrived, so it didn???t feel so strange.
We were very comfortable here and the reason for the 4* instead of 5* is that the bed was hard and not very comfortable.
