Day 1 : Rome

2025 is a Jubilee Year, a significant event in the Roman Catholic calendar celebrated every 25 years, transforming Rome into a centre of celebration. Itineraries may be adjusted to ensure you make the most of your time as you visit the Eternal City. 

Arrive in Rome, a city brimming with ancient landmarks, medieval structures, Renaissance-era palaces, and baroque churches. After settling in, join your knowledgeable Travel Director who will be on hand 24/7 to provide any support you may require. Then enjoy a delightful dinner at a local restaurant, complete with wine.

Day 2 : Vatican City and Rome with a Local Expert

Wander through the Eternal City accompanied by a Local Expert. You'll experience the Vatican Museums, home to priceless art collections amassed by the Popes. Visit the awe inspiring Sistine Chapel, where Popes are chosen, and marvel at Michelangelo's renowned ceiling before heading to St. Peter’s Basilica. Cross the Tiber River to uncover the wonders of ancient Rome. Discover the impressive Circus Maximus and the well-preserved Arch of Constantine, picturing the bustling streets of Rome from centuries past. Learn about the fascinating history and myths surrounding the iconic Colosseum as you admire its grand exterior. Later, you can choose to continue discovering the city, stopping by the Pantheon, tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, or enjoying some free time in the charming Piazza Navona.

Day 3 : Ancient Pompeii and Sorrento

Travel to the town of Pompeii, preserved in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Stroll through the ancient, cobbled streets with a Local Expert to learn about Roman life during the first century, before indulging in a refreshing lemon granita. Next, head to your hotel on the stunning Sorrento Peninsula. The afternoon is free for you to discover Sorrento at your leisure, or you may choose to join an optional excursion to picturesque Positano.

Day 4 : Sorrento to Capri

Spend the morning in the charming town of Sorrento before making your way to the port to board a jetfoil to the beautiful Isle of Capri. Take in breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and the sparkling sea as you sail. Discover Capri town, with its iconic whitewashed houses, narrow winding streets, and cosy cafés. A Local Expert will guide you through the Gardens of Augustus, where you can admire the famous Faraglioni rocks. As the evening sets in, enjoy the island at a slower pace. Stroll through scenic paths, mingle with locals in the piazzetta, or unwind with a glass of wine at an outdoor café.

Day 5 : Autostrada del Sole to Florence

Travel down to the port and take a jetfoil across the bay to Naples. From there, follow the Autostrada del Sole north, passing Rome and continuing through the picturesque region of Umbria. Travel through tranquil Tuscany until you arrive in Florence, the heart of the Italian Renaissance and a hub of art and culture. 

In Florence, opt to visit the Accademia Museum to see Michelangelo's iconic David, then take a walk to admire the stunning cathedral, the bell tower, and the baptistery, home to the famous Gates of Paradise by Ghiberti. Continue to Piazza della Signoria, the political centre of Florence and an open-air gallery of Renaissance art, where you can marvel at statues like Neptune, Hercules and Cacus in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. Alternatively, join your Travel Director for a stroll to Piazza Santa Croce, where you can enjoy a typical Italian treat in a local café while admiring the basilica. It is the perfect spot to people-watch the fashionable Florentines and browse luxury goods.

Day 6 : Florence

Watch a demonstration of the intricate leatherwork that Florence is known for and discover the city’s renowned goldsmiths. During your free time, explore Florence at your own pace, shop for souvenirs, or choose to join an optional excursion to the medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano. In the evening, sample a Florentine meal, featuring delicious starters and traditional Tuscan dishes, all complemented by a glass of Chianti.

Day 7 : Cinque Terre, Portofino & Santa Magherita

The famous Italian Riviera and Cinque Terre are a real highlight, celebrated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Italy's most stunning landscapes. With a Local Expert, soak in the breathtaking views as you approach one of the charming fishing villages by boat. Take time to wander the medieval quarter or relax on a sandy beach. From there, continue to the chic seaside village of Portofino, the perfect embodiment of la dolce vita. Stroll past the colourful houses, browse the local boutiques, or linger at a café in the piazzetta, watching the yachts in the harbour.

Day 8 : Lake Maggiore

In the morning, head north to the stunning Italian Lake District, a popular getaway for the rich and famous, where dramatic alpine landscapes meet lush subtropical vegetation. Spend a leisurely afternoon enjoying the resort and its stunning lake or opt for a scenic cruise to the enchanting Borromean Islands. For dinner, enjoy a choice of hand-picked local restaurants as part of your Dine-Around Evening experience.

Day 9 : Venice with Wine Along the Way

Travel along the edge of the Alps to the Franciacorta wine region, located near Lake Iseo. With over 100 vineyards, this area produces famous sparkling wines. Savour the exceptional local vintage wines during a tasting with a master vintner at a family-owned estate. Next, continue on to the city of Venice, where you'll step back in time to centuries past.

Day 10 : Venice and La Serenissima

Visit St. Mark’s Square where you can find St. Mark’s Basilica and admire the Doge's Palace with its Bridge of Sighs. Take your seat on a gondola and be serenaded through the myriads of canals, passing waterlapped doorways and palaces. The rest of the afternoon is yours to discover Venice at leisure. Join an experience to a traditional glassblowing workshop, where you can see how beautiful, handcrafted glass is made by expert glassblowers. Cruise the Venetian lagoon to Burano and sit down to a sumptuous dinner with wine, sampling the local specialities.

At the current time, British citizens do not require a visa to visit Italy.

Tipping

Whilst tipping isn’t embedded into Italian culture it is always appreciated as an acknowledgement of good service. Nowadays people generally round up a bill in a bar or cafe and leave 5-10% extra on a restaurant bill. Taxi bills are usually also rounded up. 
 
On guided tours/excursions, it is customary to leave a token of appreciation for the driver and guide.
 
On small group escorted tours, it is customary to leave a token of appreciation for the driver and guide at the end of the tour.
