Day 1: UK - Catania

Set off on your 7 night stay exploring the beautiful island of Sicily. You’ll head to the hotel (Il Principe or similar) where you’ll be greeted with a welcome cocktail and a delicious dinner.

Today you’ll get a chance to sample some local produce after a delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel.  

Once you’ve tasted some local delights you’ll depart for Siracusa, known for its ancient ruins and Greek origins. You’ll get plenty of chances to explore its heritage with a visit to the archaeological area “Neapolis” where you’ll get to see the famous Latomie of the Paradise and the Dyionisios ‘Ear’.

Once you’ve got to grips with the historical wonders of Siracusa you’ll continue to the island of Ortigia, with its beautiful baroque architecture this old city was once the centre of Siracusa. You’ll get to see the Cathedral which is built on the site of the Temple of Minerva as well as the Arethuse fountain and the Temple of Apollo.

Enjoy lunch on your own before departing to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ragusa. Its historical centre ‘Ibla’ is another city full of baroque architecture as well as the famous seven cities in the Val di Noto. You’ll get to sample more local delights in the main square before heading to your hotel, the Poggio Del Sole (or similar). 

Day 3: Ragusa to Caltagirone to Piazza Armerina to Agrigento

You’ll begin the day in Ragusa with a buffet breakfast before travelling to the quaint and charming town of Caltagirone. Known for its production of pottery the town displays its detailed tiles and terra-cotta wares around the town. You’ll get to visit Piazza Armerina home of the Villa Romana del Casale where you can see beautifully preserved mosaics.

Lunch will be in a local restaurant with a menu that reflects the local specialities. Agrigento is next on the agenda, and is a must see when visiting this area. Famous for its Valley of the Temples which shows off the Greek architectural skill, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the valley as well as a tour of the Temple of Concordia which is almost perfectly preserved. After an enjoyable day you’ll head to the hotel for some well-earned dinner. (Dioscuri Bay Palace or similar)

Day 4: Agrigento to Palermo to Monreale to Palermo

You’ll head off in the morning for Palermo where you’ll go straight to the Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa (or similar hotel) where you’ll be staying for the night. You’ll have time at your own leisure to relax or explore as well as enjoying lunch on your own before you depart for an afternoon visit of Monreale. This town is famous for its beautiful Cathedral with its fine mosaics depicting the complete cycle of the Old and New Testaments. In the evening you’ll enjoy dinner in a local restaurant before returning to the hotel. 

Day 5: Palermo to Segesta to Erice to Palermo

Today you’ll be heading off after breakfast to the town of Segesta where you’ll admire the famous and majestic Doric Temple built between 420 B.C and 430 B.C as well as one of the best preserved Greek architectural sites, the Theatre. With wonderful views surrounding the theatre you’ll be able to enjoy the archaeological site as it was over 2000 years ago. The medieval village of Erice is the next stopping point, sat on top of a hill it offers wonderful views of the city of Trapani and the Egadi Islands. Characterised as a labyrinth of winding streets, the town still retains its medieval charm.

After a busy morning you’ll be able to enjoy lunch on your own before travelling down to the Trapani area for a panoramic tour of the fascinating salt windmills and basins which are amazingly still in use today. You’ll round off the day travelling back to Palermo where you’ll have dinner at the hotel. 

Day 6: Palermo to Cefalu to Nebrodi Park to Taormina

Cefalù is where you’ll be heading after breakfast. This picturesque coastal town is full of charm and was once a fishing village. Take the time to walk to the city centre before heading down the main street to reach the Cathedral and also see the medieval wash-house which is built in the rock. After you’ve done some exploring by foot you’ll be driven through the Park of Nebrodi, this beautiful national park is the perfect place to enjoy some lunch. You’ll stop at the Miraglia Forest where you can order from a typical Sicilian menu.

After you’ve enjoyed the local foods you’ll continue to Cesarò, Randazzo and visit the Etna park where you’ll stand on the north facing side which is not the typical viewing point but offers wonderful views of the surrounding landscapes. You’ll finish the day in Taormina where you’ll enjoy dinner in the hotel. (Hotel Villa Diodoro or similar)

Day 7: Taormina

You’ll be able to enjoy the morning at your own pace unless you wish to take part in the optional excursion to Mount Etna. You’ll get to travel to the highest active volcano in Europe and with weather permitting you’ll see wonderful views as you reach heights of 1800 metres where you’ll visit the Sylvester Craters which offer panoramic views of the Ionian Sea. After lunch on your own you’ll travel to Taormina in the afternoon, you’ll have time on your own here so it could be the perfect opportunity to pick up some souvenirs whilst working your way around the winding streets. You’ll return to your hotel for dinner.

Flights from the UK to Sicily arrive into Palermo (PMO), Catania (CTA) or Comiso (CIY) airports. Flights to Palermo are available from London Gatwick and London Stansted and take approximately 2 hours 50 minutes, while flights to Catania depart from Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester and take approximately 3 hours. Flights to Comiso depart from London Stansted and take approximately 3 hours 15 minutes.
