About the location
Holidays in Lucca take you to the beautiful Tuscan countryside in the heart of Italy. This Renaissance town is home to 16th Century architecture and historic sights, with the vineyards and rolling green hills of Tuscany just outside its walls.
Perfect for a city break or part of a longer trip, spend your holidays in Lucca partaking in the ancient Italian art of people watching in the relaxed cafés and family run trattorias lining its streets and bustling Piazzas. Wander the streets or hire bicycles and stop off at the many beautiful sights, before heading into the countryside for wine tasting, exquisite cuisine and spectacular photo opportunities.
Day trips are a must on any holiday in Lucca. Florence’s Renaissance architecture and wonderful artworks are just over an hour away by train or car. Visit the leaning tower of Pisa or the town of Livorno which dates back to the 16th Century. Both are under an hour away.

A lively long weekend away with a friend in Lucca. Hotel Ilaria was perfect- great location just off the city walls and easy walking distance to the main sites, restaurants and shops. Room was clean and well appointed with a well stocked mini bar and tea/ coffee making facilities. Breakfast offered a good selection of continental options plus hot bacon and scrambled/ boiled eggs. In addition there was a daily complimentary refreshment bar available to guests offering hit and cold soft drinks, pastries and biscuits throughout the afternoon. During the early evening this was supplemented by complimentary Prosecco and nibbles- what’s not to like?!!
Staff were friendly and accommodating at all times. A real little gem which I would return to. I visited as part of a BA city break and was impressed by the value for what was on offer.
I would also recommend the Restaurant Gli Orti di Via Elisa just around the corner from the hotel- great value, delicious food, attentive staff in lovely surroundings without being pretentious.

A definite YES! The hotel (recently remodeled I understand) is wonderful, close to the train station (we walked to the hotel with carry on size luggage, but took a cab when we left). Claudia at the front desk (and the others too but we dealt with her most), was awesome - very helpful, friendly. She made dinner reservations and even hooked me up with a tour - both last minute.
the breakfast was great and the afternoon beverages real nice. Rooms clean and reasonably priced. All the staff was great.
No problems recommending this hotel 100 percent.

We chose well with this lovely hotel for a week's holiday. Our bedroom and bathroom were both very clean and well appointed. The reception area is attractive and clean. The offering of snacks in the afternoon is a great idea. Tea/coffee/ juices and perhaps a slice of pie are very welcome, and between 6pm and 7pm ish there is Prosecco available to start your evening off. The breakfast, served in the conservatory had a lot of choice, both hot and cold. You have to wait for hot drinks to be served and this can be slightly problematic at busy times, but the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a hot tub for those who like that sort of thing. All the staff are great. The hotel itself is in a fine position just by the Porto S.Gervaso, its a few minutes walk to lots of restaurants and is near the wall walk for a morning stroll and the short cut to the station. The area is very quiet at night. If we return to Lucca we would have no hesitation staying at the Ilaria again.

The hotel is beautiful, the staff friendly and hard working and the breakfast was delicious. The afternoon buffet was also a very much appreciated bonus.
My family and I hope we can visit this beautiful part of the world again very soon.

This hotel is excellent.I could start this review on many topics concerning the hotel but the thing to that sets it apart for excellence ( apart from many other things) is the superb quality of the staff ( each and every one).
They work as a total team and they deserve every good adjective in the book ( helpful, cheerful, efficient, ).They are best described as...well lovely.
The hotel is like a oasis in a desert. Not that Lucca is thus described. That is also lovely. But arriving back at hotel after a gruelling day in Florence, it as an oasis of welcoming calm and delight.
Well done ALL of you.
