Leaning Tower of Pisa

The construction of Italy’s most famous bell tower started in 1173, and went on for about 200 years. It was originally designed to be perfectly vertical however, due to the soft ground it was built on, it had started to lean even before it was completely finished. Today, the Leaning Tower stands at 60 metres tall and is leaning at about a 10 degree angle.

The structure is still considered to be a remarkable example of architecture in medieval Europe, and the quirky attraction draws thousands of visitors every year. Those choosing to climb the tower can look forward to an ascent of 297 steps and some unique views of the city from the top.

Opening hours: November to February 10am – 5pm, March 9am – 6pm, April to September 8.30am – 8.30pm, October 9am – 7pm.

Prices: €20 per adult. It’s recommended that tickets are purchased in advance as numbers are limited.
