Day 2 : Matera

Matera is steeped in history and is most famous for its caves, spend the morning exploring and finding out how the people of Matera lived. Admire the ancient architecture of the town and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding ravine.

Day 3 : Matera to Alberobello

Day 4 : Alberobello

Alberobello is famous for its Trulli, spend an afternoon walking around the old town, exploring the local shops and sampling the local wine. Wine tasting and Olive tasting are also in abundance in the area.

Day 5 - 7 : Alberobello - Puglia coast

Spend the last couple of days either relaxing on the beach whilst staying at one of the coastal resorts such as Torre Canne. Visit the "The White City" of Ostuni, famous for its white walls and its typically white-painted architecture. Or travel further south towards Lecce, which is known for being the "Florence of the south".

A must see whilst in the area is the Grotte di Castellana which is a Karst Cave system which was discovered in 1938.

Arrive back to Bari or Brindisi airport for your return flight back to the UK.

Flight Information

Flights to Puglia arrive into Bari (BRI) from London Gatwick and London Stansted or Brindisi (BDS) from London Gatwick, London Stansted and Manchester (indirect) and take approximately 3 hours. Please call our Italy Experts in order to book flights to Brindisi.

Visa Information

At the current time, British citizens do not require a visa to visit Italy.

Tipping

Whilst tipping isn’t embedded into Italian culture it is always appreciated as an acknowledgement of good service. Nowadays people generally round up a bill in a bar or cafe and leave 5-10% extra on a restaurant bill. Taxi bills are usually also rounded up.
 
On guided tours/excursions it is customary to leave a token of appreciation for the driver and guide.
