Capital of the Italian island of Sicily, Palermo is a vibrant city on the northern coast. Quattro Canti

Quattro Canti, also known as Piazza Vigliena, is a must visit when in Sicily. In the heart of Palermo, it is a beautiful Baroque square and an architectural masterpiece. Built in the 17th century when the island was under Spanish rule, it was designed to showcase power and wealth. Quattro Canti is a significant landmark in the city and is a popular shopping destination.

Mercato del Capo

Mercato del Capo is one of the oldest and vibrant markets in the city of Palermo. Wander around the stalls and you’ll find a wide range of fresh produce, meats, fish and local delights. There is also stalls selling souvenirs and handcrafted gifts to take home as a memory of your trip to Italy. The market offers a variety of local flavours including panelle (chickpea fritters), arancine (fried rice balls filled with meat or cheese) and sfincione (Sicilian style pizza).

Teatro Massimo

The largest opera house in Italy, Teatro Massimo is one of the most impressive buildings in Palermo. Featuring neoclassical architecture, this opera house can seat over 1,300 people and is a great place to experience the magic of the opera in Italy. Built in the late 19th century, it is a renowned cultural landmark for the city and is a historical symbol.

Palazzo dei Normanni

A magnificent palace in the heart of Palermo, Palazzo dei Normanni is home to the beautiful Cappella Palatina, featuring some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in the world. A symbol of the city’s rich history, Palazzo dei Normanni was built in the 9th century by Arab rulers. Over time, it has served as a residence to royalty, government and was even a military barracks.
