Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: UK - Venice

Overnight Accommodation

Map of Day 1: UK - Venice

Touch down in Venice and enjoy a private transfer to your hotel, the historic Londra Palace. Dating back to 1860, the hotel sits right on the banks of Venice’s famous lagoon, and puts you within minutes of Piazza San Marco and the Grand Canal. Toast your arrival with a white-peach Bellini at the lagoon-view LondraBar, then head out to begin exploring this magical city.

Points of Interest

Get your bearings with a vaporetto (waterbus) ride along the length of the Grand Canal, before working your way back to the hotel on foot, discovering quiet canals and half-hidden piazzas as you go. Don’t miss the famous Rialto Bridge for fantastic views over the Grand Canal, or the imposing Basilica di San Marco with its intricate gold mosaics.

“Venice is my favourite city. I love just walking around, soaking up the atmosphere, having coffee (or wine) and people watching.” Miranda

Day 3: Venice - Verona

Overnight Accommodation

Today, it’s a short train ride to Verona – we’ll arrange first-class seats, so you’ll be travelling in style. Your hotel for the next two nights is the Due Torri, in the heart of medieval Verona. Enjoy dinner with a view on the hotel’s roof terrace; you’ll be able to spot sights like the Torre dei Lamberti, Duomo, and St. Peter’s Castle from up here.

Points of Interest

Spend the day exploring Verona; its compact size makes it easy to explore on foot. The Roman amphitheatre, which hosts performances during the city’s summer opera festival, is a must-see, as is Juliet’s balcony (take a look at our one day in Verona guide for more sightseeing inspiration).

“July and August are the perfect times to go to the opera in Verona – I’ve never been in the city at the right time for the festival, but would love to experience a night at the opera (I’ve heard great things about Aida, so I think that’s the one I’d see).” Miranda

Day 5: Verona - Bologna

Overnight Accommodation

Another first-class rail journey will take you south to Bologna. Your hotel (which is housed in a beautiful 18th-century palazzo) puts you right in the centre of the action, with Piazza Maggiore and the city’s famous Two Towers just a short walk away. Bologna is a big foodie city, so make sure you try a few local specialities like tortellini, mortadella and tagliatelle al ragu

Day 6: Bologna - Florence

Overnight Accommodation

Map of Day 6: Bologna - Florence

Just over half an hour on the train will get you to Florence, the Renaissance capital of Italy. You’ll be staying in one of the city’s most exclusive hotels, the Hotel Villa La Vedetta. Set on a hillside close to Piazzale Michelangelo, it has fantastic views across Florence’s skyline (best enjoyed from the terrace with a Prosecco in hand). If the weather’s nice, unwind by the pool for a few hours, then wander down to the Oltrarno neighbourhood for dinner at a traditional trattoria.

Day 7: Florence

Map of Day 7: Florence

You’ve got a full day to explore Florence, so get an early start to make the most of it. The city has two world-class art galleries (the Uffizi and the Accademia) – if you’d like to visit either, we’d recommend pre-booking an excursion to skip the queues. Other sights to see include the Duomo (climb up its dome or campanile for 360-degree views), the grand Palazzo Vecchio, and the Pitti Palace museums.

“Definitely visit the Uffizi while you’re in the city – I would love to go there again as it was quite a brief trip last time I went and I love art galleries.” Miranda

Day 8: Florence - Tuscany

Overnight Accommodation

Map of Day 8: Florence - Tuscany

This morning, pick up your hire car and journey out through vineyards and sunflower fields to your final stop, Relais La Suvera. Set in the hills above the village of Pievescola, it’s a quintessential Tuscan estate, with a peaceful pool, beautiful gardens and antique-filled rooms.

Day 9 - 12: Tuscany

Points of Interest

You’ll have plenty of time to relax and see a bit of Tuscany over the next few days. San Gimignano, with its ancient towers and 12th-century Duomo, is a 40-minute drive away, as are the medieval streets of Siena. A little further afield are the vineyards and wineries of Chianti – well worth a visit for a tour and tasting.

“I went to Tuscany for the first time last summer and fell in love. It’s so relaxing and quiet, and easy to explore by car. If you visit in July, it should be just the right time to see the fields of sunflowers (my favourite flower) in full bloom – when I went it was August and they’d just finished, so a month earlier should be pretty beautiful!” Miranda
