Arrive in Sorrento and check in to your hotel for the week, the Imperial Hotel Tramontano. This one-time villa has been watching over the Gulf of Naples since the 16th century. (D)
Today, your guide will lead you on a stroll around Sorrento, stopping to sample limoncello, pizza and ice-cream along the way. If you find yourself with some spare time, climb down to the marina or bagsy a lounger on one of the smart sunbathing jetties. (B,D)
After breakfast and a caffè, we’ll head off to explore the Amalfi Coast. The spectacular sea-view road is considered one of the most scenic drives on the planet, serving up views at every twist and turn. Drive past Positano’s pastel-shaded houses before stopping off at Amalfi, where a gilded Arab-Norman cathedral rises up over the town. Ravello is your next stop – a clifftop town famous for the panoramic gardens that stagger down the hillside. (B,D)
A free day gives you the chance to kick back by the pool, wander through the Villa Comunale gardens, or retreat to the hotel’s bay-view terrace with a glass of wine. (B,D)
Spend today on an expert-led tour of Pompeii’s ruins, before journeying to the slopes of the volcano that buried it, Mount Vesuvius. Don’t forget your camera – the bird’s-eye views from the crater are fantastic. (B,D)
The next two days are yours to spend as you like. You can book onto one of our day trips from Sorrento, we recommend taking a boat over to the stylish boutiques and island views of Capri by joining onto a Capri & Anacapri excursion, or putter over to quieter Ischia for thermal spas and botanical gardens. Fancy a flavour of fast-paced Italy? Jump on a direct train to Naples, a city that moonlights as a gallery for 18th-century architecture. (B,D)
