Arrive at Milan Malpensa Airport and transfer to your chosen hotel in the city centre. Don’t waste any time before hitting the streets and piazzas of Milan to enjoy your first meal at one of the many restaurants.

Milan is famous for being Italy’s fashion capital, shop till you drop at one of the world’s first shopping malls, Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II. The elegant four story arcade first opened in 1867 and is packed full of designer stores from Gucci to Versace. If the price tags are slightly out of your budget you can still enjoy a morning of window shopping.

Spend the afternoon on a tour of La Scala Opera House museum (€7 per adult approx) learning about the theatre’s history and admiring musical instruments dedicated to Italian composers. Finish off the day with an elegant evening watching a traditional opera performance.

Today we suggest visiting one of Milan’s most recognisable landmarks, The Cathedral. Being the 5th largest church in the world, this magnificent structure has stunning interiors and spectacular views over Milan. Climbing the Cathedrals countless stairs is thirsty work; so head to the nearest café to enjoy a strong Italian coffee and a light lunch.

Starting at 2.30pm, the "Grand Tour of Milan" excursion is a great way to see the main sights of the city. On this tour a professional guide will walk you through Milan's famous shopping gallery, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II , before showing you one of the most famous works of art in the world - The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.

Day 4: Milan – Genoa

Leave the fashion capital behind as you travel towards Genoa. The train journey between Milano Centrale Railway station and Genoa Piazza Principle Station takes approximately 1hour 30mins and is a lovely to way to relax and enjoy the scenic route.

Genoa, the largest seaport in the country, has plenty of sites to keep you busy. Dive into a magnificent underwater world at the largest aquarium in Europe or wind through the medieval alleyways to discover the city’s rich history. Make sure you stop at one of the many cafes to try the light liqueur flavoured sponge named after the city itself, known as Genoise Cake.
