About the location
One of Tuscany’s most prominent spa towns, Montecatini Terme is an intoxicating blend of historic architecture, beautiful scenery and some great local attractions. The area has been inhabited as far back as 10,000 BC, thanks mainly to the impressive natural spa located in the town. Today, however, the town mostly dates from the medieval period, and offers plenty of historic sites for you to explore.
Like many of the towns in the region, this one is split between a lower and upper section, known as Montecatini Bassa (lower) and Montecatini Alto (upper). One of the best ways to go between the two sections is via the town’s historic funicular railway, which has been running since 1888. The upper town is most historic, with pretty cobbled lanes, stunning views and a 12th-century church. The town’s spas are also located here, and are some of the best known in all of Tuscany. While spa treatments have modernised, there are many original spas still standing, including the grand Tettuccio Terme – one of the region’s best.
Montecatini Terme is just over 40 minutes’ drive from Pisa and Florence, so you’ve got plenty of day trip options during your stay here.
Transfer time
Car hire is recommended for this hotel. Montecatini is 31 miles from Florence and 32 miles from Pisa. Simply call us once you’ve completed your booking and we will talk you through the options.

We have just completed a one week stay here at Francia e Quirinale and we would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a comfortable base to explore the major cities and attractions of Tuscany. The hotel has a very stylish Italian decor, has a lovely outside pool and sun bathing area and is very well located in Monticatini for easy reach to the train station for travelling to Lucca, Florence and Viareggio. San Ginminano is 1 hour by car and Siena is 1 hour 40 minutes. A day at the beach at either Forti di Marmi or Viareggio is only 45 minutes away. The staff here at the hotel are so nice and friendly- they really do look after you and go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need. Thank you to Roberto, Katie, Serena, Luigia and Simone for making our stay so enjoyable and personable. You are a credit to the hotel.

A medium size, friendly independent hotel with a lovely ambiance. Excellent check in process, we were given the option of communicating rooms with the children, rather than the two rooms we had booked - we lost our balcony (sad face), but communicating rooms was a more expensive option that we were not charged for. Also offered parking within the blue zones for 4E per day, good value and hassle free parking.
The staff work hard, saw the breakfast team leaving at midnight and back the next morning, but they were always happy to help. The hotel itself is beautiful, its recently been renovated with some care. Good standard of rooms, but the shared areas and the dining areas are quite beautiful.
Location is excellent, walk to great restaurants bars and the train station etc. As well as the Terme???s. If you have a car dine at Al Bivio - try the steak.
Beds - super comfy, great aircon, the water pressure is high so the walk in showers are fantastic.
Buffet breakfast was good enough - if you???re in the higher grade rooms you have a separate dining area. Sitting outside on the terraced hotel from with waiter bar service is an excellent post dinner opportunity.
Pool area was clean with waiter service (the perfect place for an Aperol)The only slight negative was number of pool sun loungers was too few, and a couple of people thought it was appropriate to ???book??? them by placing towels on them, then disappearing. Global problem and not worth dropping my five star rating.

My wife and I stayed here as part of a Gate 1 tour. The hotel is beautiful. It is loaded with charm and character. The front desk staff were outstanding, friendly and helpful. The rooms are good size. The bed was comfortable. We were served breakfast every morning. It was delicious and plentiful. The tour included a couple of dinners. The food was as good as you got in some of the better restaurants in the town. The waiters were spectacular. We want to go back there now.

We stayed here for seven nights with a tour group. The public areas of the hotel are lovely, service from the folks behind the desk fine, and the two elevators actually work rather well, something of a rarity in Italy. Our main problems were with the food that we had in the restaurant, which was uninspired, and slow service cleaning our room. If we were not part of a group, we would look elsewhere for a hotel if we were to return to Montecatini Terme.

Our group was fortunate too spend seven nights in this lovely hotel. We were on the fifth floor and had a very nice room with french doors that opened out to the town. If you shudder at being across from an abandoned hotel with a disgusting sludge in a swimming pool, ask not to have that view. The biggest problem is no coffee in the room or available anywhere until breakfast opens and no iron. Also the pillows are rocks. The bathroom was very nice and oddly had nice linen hand towels - I hated to mess them up. The staff throughout the hotel is amazing. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, the service superb and the food in the evening was truly awesome. The sitting areas are elegant and refined. The bar area is amazing and lots of fun with a good selection of local wines.
