About the location
Cascading from the peak of a steep hillside to the Serchio River below, Barga is a patchwork of peach and cream houses, set beneath a dramatic 11th-century cathedral. With a history stretching more than a thousand years into the past, and an array of medieval sights, Barga is a hidden gem of the Tuscan countryside and well worth a visit.
The town’s unique beauty has recently seen it named an Orange Flag destination – an accolade that puts it among the best of Italy’s small towns. Despite its small size, the town plays host to numerous annual events, including the popular Barga Jazz festival. There are plenty of beautiful walks to enjoy locally, and the surrounding landscape ranks as one of the most scenic locations found in Italy. If you fancy exploring a little further, beautiful Lucca is just over an hour's drive away.

The hotel owners here have zero morals. We were supposed to be staying here in April for a wedding and the hotel CLOSED during the pandemic and refused to give our money back. My friend also lost all of her money on the wedding she was supposed to have here even though legally they would not have been able to hold it. Absolutely disgusting. Every other trip/hotel/flight of mine that was cancelled because of the virus was promptly refunded. Do not risk booking here.

This is a lovely hotel to unwind and relax in. The views are what really sell the place, breath taking from morning till dusk (just see their social media). The hotel really takes advantage of the views with the pool, restaurant and rooms all looking out over them. The staff are lovely and really helpful. The rooms are great, with uninterrupted views over the mountains and to Barga.
The hotel has a great array of seating area and bar to enjoy, however due to Covid and having to wear masks inside we didn???t take advantage of this like we normal would on an evening, opting to use our room and balcony instead.
The hotel has put lots of covid measures in place. There???s a machine to take your temperature before you can enter the building, there???s hand sanitizer everywhere, the pool towels are handed to you in plastic bags and the pool attendants did an amazing job of cleaning down the chairs when people left.
The only disappointment to this hotel is the pool is freezing which put us off using as much as we would have liked. And the evening menu was the same every night in the restaurant which forced us to eat our more than we would have liked.

Due to Covid we can???t travel to some countries so we chose a long weekend in Barga because of this property. The hotel sent a welcome letter with instructions and got information regarding reservation requirements due to Covid. We arrived on a Saturday late am to be greeted by George the general manager. We asked where to have dinner. George immediately asked a staff member to set us up for dinner in Barga which was fabulous at Elisa. He had the staff move my spa appointment the next day to allow for a local winery tour and lunch. I had requested a suite upgrade due to Titanium status. We were taken to a junior suite on 5th floor with balcony and fabulous view. The room is one large room with sitting area, large walk-in closet and nice bathroom. It needs more counter space like most hotels. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was served in terrace and nice selection of both American and Italian favorites. Teresa in the spa is an excellent massage therapist. The wine tasting treatment is 129 minutes of bliss consisting of body and face treatment. It???s a combo of exfoliating, mask, facial and massage, all divine. The Sunday evening dinner on the terrace was lovely and the filet with peppercorn sauce was stellar. All the staff here are fabulous and friendly. The local winery with lunch and wine tasting was fabulous. We bought two cases of 4 different wines. It???s a must visit.
As a titanium member I had been really disappointed in some hotels response to Covid, keeping deposits in Greece and not feeling like a valued life long customer until meeting George on this trip. This is why I remain loyal to the brand. Even in a pandemic George found a way to over-deliver.
Highly recommend this Renaissance and the local winery plus Elisa too.

BAD things - literally everything else. Few staff members, especially in the restaurant. Very very poor management. We had to leave the restaurant as we waited for over two hours and barely noticed.
For the price paid that ??? HAVE to deliver a much higher standard service.
All the instructions you receive at the reception. So you better pay attention and concentrate. All you need o. Holidays, right? Do not relax!!!
Instead of adding some books or online links to all instructions, no. the very old fashion way is better.

The ladies at breakfast were very friendly and welcoming.
The staff at the restaurant at dinner were always nice and also welcoming. The food was very delicious and good value, the only thing was the wines, very delicious but a bit expensive!!
The barman made very good cocktails and got us quite drunk a few times 😜.
Overall a really good experience, we???d love to go back sometime.
