Considered the most likely location of the ancient city of Tibula, Santa Teresa Gallura is a place steeped in history and surrounded by some of the most spectacular Sardinian scenery. The beachfront setting provides a beautiful outlook over the sea and lends the town a laid-back atmosphere, as well as supplying a whole host of water-based activities, including snorkelling and boat trips.
One of the city’s most recognisable attractions is the round tower known as Torre di Longonssardo, which dates from the 16th century and overlooks the popular Rena Bianca beach. Closer to the town’s heart, the main piazza is a traditional affair, complete with pretty terracotta buildings and peaceful pavements cafes. Gelaterie and bustling cafes are among the most popular dining options but there are also a handful of quaint, family-run trattorie serving up richly flavoured pasta dishes alongside the locally produced Cannonau di Sardegna wine.
Just along from the town, the beautiful rock outcrops of the Capo Testa provide great photo opportunities, as well as the chance to visit a Bronze Age ruin. With the Maddalena Archipelago close by too, it’s easy to book boat tours that showcase some of the coastline’s most scenic spots.

The closest airport to the resorts in North Sardinia is Olbia (OLB). Direct flights to Olbia are available from Bristol, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Manchester and London Luton and take approximately 2 hours.
When to go
Sardinia is a summer destination, with the season generally running from May to early October. Temperatures are at their hottest in July and August and this is when the towns and beaches are at their busiest. However, Sardinia also enjoys a mild climate in spring and autumn with temperatures rarely going beneath 20 degrees which makes it perfect for visiting at the beginning or end of season too. May, June and September are ideal months to visit for those wanting to avoid the busiest crowds and still enjoy warm weather.

Tipping
Whilst tipping isn’t embedded into Italian culture it is always appreciated as an acknowledgement of good service. Nowadays people generally round up a bill in a bar or cafe and leave 5-10% extra on a restaurant bill. Taxi bills are usually also rounded up.
