Hillside location facing out over the Bay of Naples
- A stone’s throw from the beating heart of Sorrento
- Take a dip in the cascading swimming pool
- Dine with beautiful views on the hotel terrace
Perched on the side of a cliff and nestled into a rockface, Grand Hotel Capodimonte fuses so seamlessly with its surroundings we wouldn’t be surprised if you missed it the first time around! Put simply, this prestigious 4-star hotel is an architectural masterpiece. Built in the traditional Mediterranean style, the modern hotel is light, airy and decorated in an elegant classic-contemporary style.
Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a great escape for couples or families with older children. There are many quiet little corners to hide away in, as well as superb open spaces both in the lounges and on the terraces. As you can expect, the hotel enjoys gorgeous views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, which are perhaps some of the best in Sorrento. But it is surely the hotel’s five cascading swimming pools that is its crowning glory. The pools all face that magnificent view, so you can cool off from the summer heat while admiring the sheer beauty before your eyes.
Despite its hidden, hillside location, Grand Hotel Capodimonte is less than 15-minutes’ walk away from Sorrento centro. The town is world-famous for ceramics so be sure to stroll the pretty streets looking for bargains. Food and wine plays a huge part in the way of life here and the little town has many wonderful options suitable for every taste and budget! The port, with direct links to the Amalfi coast and Capri is only 30 minutes away by foot.
The hotel has 184 rooms (official rating 4-star). Child prices apply to ages 2-12 years. Minimum stay 3 nights.

About the location
Home to pedestrian streets lined with family-run gelaterias, souvenir shops selling wonderful ceramics and wonderful trattorias, Sorrento is a charming destination for all. After filling your Instagram feed with perfect pictures of Sorrento old town and pretty pastel houses tumbling into the sea, why not drink in a bit of culture? In just a short walk you’ll be at all the town’s sights, including the Museo Correale di Terranova, Sorrento’s art museum where you can see grand works from the 15-19th centuries.
Sorrento is built onto the side of a rocky mountain, which is covered in vines and olive and lemon groves. But if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town - it can get very busy during July and August - why not head up into the hills? Believe us, it’s worth the effort as spectacular views are guaranteed! For travellers who want to enjoy more urban charms, Naples and Pompeii are both about an hour’s drive or train ride away.
Sorrento excels in the Italian art of people watching, and time spent settled into a comfy chair, gazing at both the view and the passers by is time well spent. Order yourself a limoncello, grab yourself a prime spot on the Piazza Tasso and simply watch the world go by.

Nice hotel with spectacular views. We stayed here for five nights- our room view/balcony looked photoshopped! The room itself was pretty with traditional decor. The breakfast buffet was also very good. Ate at the hotel for dinner one night - everything felt a bit dated but tasted good. We enjoyed the location of the hotel and were able to safely walk into town at all hours of day and night to town.

I felt compelled to write a review having read some frankly insane negative reviews here which all seem to be attributed to booking through third parties or totally rogue reasons such as the busy staff not entertaining attempts to get free Italian lessons from them.
This hotel is stunning, we have stayed three times and will stay again this year for our most important stay yet - our wedding held at the hotel. The staff are amazing and have bent over backwards every time we've stayed no matter the request, whether we have been in the cheapest or the most expensive room. The food and drink is more expensive than some other places sure, but the location, service and quality makes up for it - a reminder for negative reviewers that Sorrento town is 5 mins walk away and there is no obligation to eat at the hotel.
The pools are so beautiful, and the wildlife of the surrounding areas is such an added bonus. Trust the beauty of the photos if you're thinking of booking here, it's one of the only places I've been to in the world that is truly even better in real life.

I had high expectations when we booked but disappointed with our 6 night stay. Stayed here with 2 other couples.
Pros: nice lobby, front desk, room size was good, small balcony overlooking the terrace, glimpse of the sea from afar, housekeeping, location (walkable to center)
Cons:
-Room was a little bit outdated. Housekeeping was good but this place puts a bedsheet on bed and no comforter. There was one fleece like one in the closet which we ended up using to keep warm and raised the room temp. Our friends who were in different rooms wondered also why there was no comforter on the bed. VERY STRANGE. I slept in one of the robes that was provided. Thin walls but thank goodness our room was at the very end so heard very little except when people were in the hallway.
-No hot water one night so took a cold shower. Few other nights, it was lukewarm. Poor husband was not happy and he rarely complains. Shower head faces an odd direction so if you are tall or larger than average, you are leaning closer to the glass.
-Breakfast was in a beautiful room overlooking Sorrento-massive food spread but didn't taste well.
I would not go back to this place or recommend. I've stayed at 4 other European places this past summer and for the price we paid, it hit the bottom 4th.

First, on the con side, prices are very high (not justified), but this is common in this area of Italy, close to the Amalfi coast. But what is really missing in this hotel is some human consideration, friendliness: every interaction with the staff from check-in to service and check-out is extremely cold and impersonal. You'll be a room number during all your stay. As an example, we booked a car with driver to visit Amalfi Coast (450 Euros!), they did not even take care of providing us with a driver that can speak French or English; so for 8 hours, he just said 10 words...
That lack of consideration and heat is a very negative point for me and despite the qualities I described above, I will not come back nor recommend this hotel.
Now, on the pro side, The hotel is big with several buildings and I think that experience can be different based on which part you are. Some room are facing the mountain and have no sun but humidity, others have a nice view of the gulf. The room we had was clean and fresh with nice colors and decoration. Some equipment were missing, like a body weighter or bottles of water...The pool is very beautiful and unique but also very cold (heating system from solar or water panels on the roofs would be a good investment). SPA, fitness facitities, ping pong...are also available. Restaurants (3 with the pool bar) are just ok, pricy with a limited menu. On the other hand the quality of food products is very good and the breakfast with view of the gulf is exceptional: everything your can think of is there. Location of the hotel is ideal as it's very close to the city but at the same time far enough from the noise of car circulation (so many cars and jamming on the roads).
